Yea it most likely wasnt actually on fire, but expelling a cloudy substance, usually waste in my case, is normal. I have never knowingly witnessed a spawning. What happens with mine is it happens in spurts never one huge expulsion. So was it expelling stuff for a constant minute?
I have seen a reaction that sounds much like this from Elegance corals. I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but Elegance corals will do this under sudden and intense light shock. Sometimes when quickly placed under intense lighting an Elegance will begin to "smoke". The smoke does not come from the mouths, but the entire coral. It's not thick. It is thin like smoke from hot coals. Does this sound like what you saw? If so you may want to think about moving your brain to a more shaded area of the tank.
Thanks elegance coral!!! yes it is a thin layer and no it doesnt come from the mouth but the entire coral. I will move him to a more shaded area and see what happens.
