Smoothdog's 150DD build

Ok, time for another update!

Got the front doors built. I've got a friend down the street that does custom window tinting and he slapped on some frosted film on the glass in the doors. Couldn't find the little plastic glass holders anywhere so just made some. Added some soft close hinges so the doors wouldn't slam:

Went with stone, cut stone and glass tile for the motif on top. It's odd, lines in the glass tile are hardly noticeable with the naked eye, but some trick of the lens picks it up. The lines are actually the bottom of the tile that is textured like that so there is something for the thinset to grip.

The more or less finished product:

I need to seal the stone and grout tomorrow so the saltwater doesn't damage it. Then I hope to get the tank set on it and do a freshwater test on Sunday. Still need to build a top and concealment panels on the back corner but can't do that until it's in place in the house so I can take some measurements.

Looks great. Very creative work with the stone Kirk.

Very nice work Kirk! I'm not a big fan of the frosted glass in doors usually but the combination with the tile, stone and the glass doors is outstanding.

Thanks BK! I was originally going to go with 2 smaller doors with wood panels on each side but this idea popped into my head when I was thinking about the extra work of the extra doors. :D

Thanks Mike, I'd have to charge about $30k per stand to make any money at the rate I build them though. Not quite sure I'm in the same league as a few of those guys but I might post it up there once it's up and running.

Beautiful work dog!!!!

Thanks Awais!

I got the tank on the stand last week and did a freshwater test and it didn't go boom, so I guess I'm ready to move it into the family room now. :)

Is it moved yet

Nope, my buddy down the street went out of town so it's still sitting in the garage. If anyone wants to come over this week and help me move it that would be great.

Pictures!!! Come on Dog, you know the rules!! Lol

Yeah dog. Don't make me do it :lol2:

He will do it, don't make him...

Dang, it looks just like it did before, only with a tank on it now.

Yeah, the redguard on the top made it look a little gaudy, I just kept envisioning it with the tank there and blocked it out after looking at it for the umpteenth dozen time.

Thanks Pife!

The tank makes it look so much better. Great work.

Haha. Nice save!

P.S.: I'm not sure if you thought about this but that red will show if/when your sand moves. Maybe paint the bottom of the tank or lay something over that red paint to cover it.

You can get a sandy textured rattle can finish from Home Depot(rustoleum maybe) that you can paint the bottom glass with (on the outside) that would eliminate that problem and keep a nice sandy look if any sand moved. Just a theory
