I'm sure it still needs to break in for a bit before it starts kicking out some really nasty stuff, but it's doing pretty good for only being a day old in the tank.

Ha Ha, thanks man. I'm really a little nervous that this thing is just going to kick in and start pumping out foam like crazy without warning. The old skimmer was pulling out a lot more dark nasty stuff so I think right now it just needs to get a little biofilm built up and break down any oils or release agents left that the 24hr vinegar bath didn't get.

How do the neck cleaners work? Seems like all the material that is cleared would drop back down into the skimmer, just to be removed again later by the normal skimming process.

It runs every few hours so there isn't a lot of gunk to wipe off the sides, what gets wiped isn't thick enough to fall back down and gets carried up the bubble column.

The foam head seems to pick up right after the cleaner runs which I would assume takes that crap out. Plus with the neck clean the skimmer runs more consistent. I'm new to this thing so that's just my take. I just want to touch my tank less and this seems to help with that.

Nice little single wiper, but this one is a double wiper! Kinda like an amp that goes to 11, it's just better. :lol:

Thanks guys, I guess I'm used to the thick paste that I clean out by hand.

The explanations make sense, as the neck is cleared out every couple of hours verses every couple of days.

Makes me wish I had a taller stand or better yet a fish room!
