Just kidding Dog, this tank is Awesome. Stand looks awesome and the contents of the tank are just as nice!

I finally got the overflow dead silent. There was a little bit of a trickle that had been driving me nuts. I thought it was just because the new plumbing didn't have any bacterial slime yet but it turns out that I was using the 1.5" drain for the emergency backup and the tiny trickle that runs down it was hitting the 1" reduction and gurgling. Swapped it out for straight 1" pipe and it's completely silent now.
 
That was a nice fix smooth.
I dont remember, what kinda overflow you have?
I have this bean animal, and no matter what I do, its never dead silent, have given up.

I'm running a herbie. One pipe with a valve running full siphon and just barely a trickle down the second. Same concept as beananimal only using 2 pipes. Where is your noise coming from, the second pipe with the trickle? If you have hard 90 deg elbows that could be causing it. I used spaflex to create smooth curves in the pipe so that water wouldn't hit a hard corner and back up causing a gurgle. That's why I was surprised when I had one, just didn'tthink about that goofy oversized pipe.
 
Yep coming from the 3rd trickle one.... many potential sites possible: hard elbows, reductions from 1.5 to 1, union. I also supect there could be issues with the height of each overflow elbow slits....
I could never get it to work like the original way it supposed to....with the air siphon backup.....

No worries. Take some good pics of your plumbing and post them up in your thread and maybe we can come up with a solution.
 
mpcart was asking about my skimmate collection chamber and I realized I never posted when I got it. I picked up an Avast Marine skimmate locker after my my skimmer overflowed the first time and flooded the bottom of my sump stand in the basement. There are several folks making these including GEO. I went with the Avast model because it has an air pressure switch instead of a mechanical float valve. Avast also makes modules that are compatible with various controllers, so if you have an RA/apex/Aquacontroller you can just plug the sensor into it and program the controller to handle it and send alerts if desired. I opted to just get the power control module that you plug the skimmer into and it will turn off power to the skimmer if the chamber fills. I check things in the basement daily, so I really don't need an alert if the skimmer goes offline for a little while so now if I ever change controllers I don't need to get a new part.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I think I'll do the same thing but my skimmer has three pumps and I want to know what's going on from afar so I think I'll go with the Apex option. It's the same price so all I'll need is a breakout box.

Which size skimmate locker are you using?

I went with the medium size. I skim pretty dry so I only need to empty it every couple of weeks when I clean the collection cup and neck cleaner.
 
Thanks. I have an Apex controller and I'd like to be able to turn the skimmer off remotely - but I don't really need to be alerted if it turns off and I have an IP cam that I can use to visually see if it is on or off. Plus, my skimmer has three pumps.

Do you think this setup would work?

Apex EB8 --> Avast Std Outlet ---> 3 outlet power strip ---> Skimmer pumps

That way I could turn the skimmer on/off (all three pumps at the same time) and save some EB8 outlet space that I need. Otherwise, using the Apex switch requires three EB8 outlets and a breakout box.

Yep, that will work fine. That's how mine is set up so it can be turned off for feeding mode etc. I just have the one pump though so I skipped the power strip.
 
Man can you redo your currant tank info at the bottom of your post? I follow your thread, but now that your talking about your new collection cup / container. I have to search all the way back through your thread to figure out what skimmer you have. Just saying. It helps.

Remember the only things that happen fast in this hobby are bad things. I'm in the running for most impatient person in the club I'm sure, but its a requirement for a nice reef:(
