looks like some type of pacific nassarius to me

It is indeed a nassarius. Not many get that big. The most likely is Nassarius dorsatus, which is also known to be supplement it's scavenging with predation. So while a Nassarius, not one you want as a scavenger

I have a few of those doing well even in my BB tank, but they do prefer sand.

I have some HUGE ones too. I have around 10 in all, When I moved my tank there was very little muck in the sand I still think those guys and my sand sifting starfish were to thank for it.
