Snail Poop????

Hater of Hair Algae
I have 3 golfball size turbosnails and the other day one was up against my powerhead causing a really annoying buzzing sound. So I gently pulled him off the glass to place him on the rocks and these brown pellets fell from under his shell, they kinda look like small mouse turds. Do snails poop? If they are giving off that much waste on a regular basis I'm going to return them to LFS, I'm aspiring for sps and this extra waste wouldn't be good,IMO.

Pretty much anything that eats poops. Could have been snail poop you saw. The snails sound like they are doing their job of eating algae. Rather than returning them, I'd suggest getting detritus eating snails (cerith, nassarius, etc) that will clean that up and break the poop down further. Eventually it gets broken down by bacteria, into nitrate, which will then feed the algae, which the snails eat and poop out.

Its all part of the great cycle of life :)

Yes, snails poop. Could have been what you saw but I woudn't be worried about it too much. There are plenty detrivores in your system that will eat it.

:D :D :D

Im am actually more amazed that you thought an animal could eat something and NOT produce waste! Everything that consumes something produces some sort of waste even plants!

Thanks everybody for the posts! For the record I am using a skimmer. I figured the snails would produce some waste, but I've never seen waste that big come from an aquarium inhabitant before, that's why I used the word "poop". These things are huge, much bigger than a grain of rice, that's what caused my concern with water pollution. I definitely need some hungry detrivores to take care of those things!!!!

Thanks mfp4073 for the visual:lolspin:
