snails and clams

I am a novice to saltwater aquaria and am setting up a 90 gal aquarium. I wish to have a clam or two in the future, but I would like to order some snails soon as part of a "cleaning crew" concept. I am trying to get an idea of what would be safe to purchase now that would not be considered an "infection" clam-wise in the future. I have seen talk about pyramidal snails. Is this a specific snail or a class of snails? What are some small clam-safe snails I could use in my tank for algae, detritis, general purpose tank cleaning? Thanks for any reply. Judy

pyramids are a pest that come in as a hitchhiker, the usual snails are good for a clam tank nassarius and super nassarius ( if you have a sand bed ), cerith, astraea, turbo, margarita, or trochus.

my choice:

sandbed: nassarius and astraea
BB: cerith and astraea
