I am not sure exactly what the real name of these clowns are, but if someone could enliten me I would be greatful. Are they just a hybrid or are they thier own species? I would love to get o few of these for my Tank I am going to set up so if someone could point me in the right direction for some info and maybe were to purchase them I would appreciate it.

Picasso clowns. Sometimes called "snowflake clowns"
Just a variant of your regular ocellaris.
I know ORA carries them. :)

These are snowflake clowns. they are occ. only one bleeder in England. i waited 2 years for these. they are in the range of 400-800/pr.
Picassos are from ORA. they are perc. they are easier to come by. they run 200-399/pr.
good luck

picasso clowns are not Ocellaris they are Percula, snowflakes are ocellaris.

Ora does not sell snowflake ocellaris though.

So their are 2 different variations of this varient then. One is from the ocellaris and one from perculas?

I prefer the brighter orange of the ocellaris to the true percs.

I looked at the ones from ORA and do not much care for them as much as the pics I have seen from personal tanks. Too much black and a more yellow orange coloration. I am looking for some bright orange and white with only a little black. But I guess if you order them online you kinda get what is sent too you!

The ones I posted in the pic are what I am looking for. Which look to me like the ocellaris.

They are snowflake OCELLARIS clowns. That completely white covered look is something only really seen in false perc clowns.

oh reefman you are so wrong. True Amphiprion percula are now being bred that are nearly pure white from nose to caudal peduncle.

If I am, please prove me wrong. I have seen a COMPLETELY white clownfish, and have NEVER seen a COMPLETELY white true perc picasso...

I rember a few years ago Inland Aquatics had a pair that was pure white except their nose. They told me what they were EVERY time I went in there. I just cant rember what they called them. I do rember they were no more than a breeding goof. A morph as they called it. I offered 1500$ for them and I got laughed at. And was told NFS.

Reefman, If you supply the biologist/taxonomist, I will supply the fish (free for the sake of science). DNA extractions could be proof enough for most. Save a fish, if you are looking, I know where you can get them for about $200 to $300 each. And for all of those that say these snowflake percs must be a perc X Ocellaris hybrid; if that is the case There is NO SUCH THING as a pure perc. They would all have to be the same species, or a hybrid of the two.

From your prior responses, it appears you prefer the TMC UK Snowflake variant which is limited supply. Be prepared to be patient and spend $300-800ea if you are in a rush. Hopefully much less.

There are a few US based breeders with similar specimens, but IMHO, most don't have proper body shape or markings.

Might want to contact your LFS and see if they can get on the list with TMC for you.

I am not in a rush. I am at the moment in the planning stages of my next tank. I am planning the tank and setup entirely around what I want housed in it. After numerous reef tanks I have finally decided to do it right. Nothing smaller than 400g. Rather than just buying what is available at my LFS (which sucks in Oceanside CA) I want to get what I want. I have found that my tastes are for the exotic and rare fish/corals (isn't everyones). If I cant afford it at the moment then I will wait until I can rather then settleing for second best. $300 isn't bad considering some I am looking into are closer to $1500x2 (i.e. pair of japanese pygmy angels).

With that said...

what is TMC UK? I am new to this forum and don't know all the abreviations.

Patience wins, you should have the opportunity to buy a few specimens during build out.

Might even be able to snag a "cotton candy" variant from C-Quest :)

Good luck with the project.
