Snowflake questions

I picked up a snowflake from a local here. He lost the mate, and me having a tank for him i took it.
I would like to pair it up with another Osc clown. Maybe hold out for another snowflake if one is widdowed and someone wants to sell.
Is there a site that sells these?
It has found its rbta in a hour after acclimation. :)
Pics to come tomarrow.
TIA for any help finding a site that sells them.

wait for another snowlake they are reall special could you pm me how much you paid
can we have a pic?

I have never seen single snowflakes for sale....always as a pair. Watch LA they go through their, typically about $500 a pair. I think any LFS that deals with quality marine has the possibility of getting access to them.

Old town aquarium in chicago has them in periodically as well, have seen them there before.

Yes i'll post a pic when the light goes back on, and i know they are mostly only sold as pairs. :(
I can always wait to see if one is widdowed at a later date, and the owner wants to sell it. Wishfull thinking, But i know **** happens.

I was thinking that. The previous owner stated that this clown is mean and beats up potential mates. Its always in the rbta. Thats how he got it out, Just pryed it loose from the nem. LOL
All my previous clowns never found their nem. This one did almost instantly. :) Lights will be on soon. I'll grab a pic in a few.

Heres a couple pics.

wow... thats a very white fish!

I second trying a black ocellaris! Maybe even try to get a misbar'd one with as little white as possible! That way you'd have a black & white combo pair :D

Thanks
What do you guys suggest? Should i get a bigger osc? Since its soo mean and took up residence in the rbta i was thinking getting a bigger clown.

How big is this one? how long has it been alone? chances are if its been alone a while its probably female & you will have to get a male.

Its probably not going to be as agressive if you get one ASAP since this is a new home for it. Introduce them like you would a maroon.

not a male but a sexless clown from a tank at the LFS that has lots of small clowns in it these will all be sexless and turn male when they meet your clown just make sure to but the smallest clown you can for it so the sexing goes easier

This is about maybe an inch and a half. It has been over a month of being alone. Its mean towards smaller clowns and the guy i got it from suggested betting a much bigger one, But this clown is already beating up on a sixline wrasse that killed my 2 onyx percs.:(

I wouldn't go for a much bigger one...it's possible if you get a larger one that you'll end up with two females that will fight to the death.

Pick up the smallest one you can find that's in a tank with several other clowns and you might have some luck...also, are you sure that the other guy wasn't just panicked about the normal dominance ritual?

Dunno if he was just being cautious or not. Yeah i'll try a all black false perc first. Should be interesting.
Thanks for the tip, Its easier to get a smaller one anyways. Dont find them much bigger around here.

Do you know if this was the male or female of the pair? were they still juvi's?
I have the same problem. I lost one of my snowflakes so I put a known larger female percula in the tank to keep my survivor from turning female. I was not sure if mine was male or female but I wanted to find out by adding the female. I could always remove it if they showed signs of both being females.
My thought was that if I were to find another single snowflake, it could be either a male, female or juvi. If I let my snowflake turn female then all I could get was a male or juvi for her. Chances are better that someone has lost one half of a pair and held on to the mate long enough to turn female.;)

I agree I would go smaller and even maybe reintroduce them to the tank as a pair, adding both at the same time. I have done this before with maroons when the female was not receptive to a small juvenile being added.

Well if fish here sells me the snowflake i'll drop the ideah of an all black one. ;)
This is a female now almost sure of it.
Fish you stated you threw a perc in there? If so they are false clowns, they wont pair up.
All black false clowns are in short supply this time of year. I dont want to pay shipping on a $30 dollar fish. I see chocolates regularly with the blacks, But not at this time. I wonder what a chocolate and snowflake baby would look like? LOL
