so I came home the other night to one of my lights smoking

came home from work late and one of my bulbs on my 10 gal plant tank was flickering. Its the kind of fixture that you get at walmart to hang under the kitchen counter. Tube type florecent bulbs. Figuring the bulb was bad I went to find another bulb and picked the unit up and HOLY COW THERE IS SMOKE COMING FROM IT. Unplugged everything, it was from the electric balast circuit board. I dont know if it would have actually caught fire and flamed up. But SCARY.

Wow that is scary, glad nothing bad happened. Are you using a loop in the cord to keep salt creep away? Salt & electric is a bad mix. Sometimes just being near a tank can cause some build up. It's a good idea to unplug stuff once in awhile to check it and wipe it clean.

this was on my freshwater plant tank...so no salt issue....but yeah. Scary......
