So This Is My 150 - lots of pics

very beautiful tank. i got so into the fts that my wife thought i was looking at inappropriate websites... :frog:...... did you use dielectric grease to help transfer heat on the LEDs?

Thanks!!! I appreciate it!!!
I actually forgot the step of adding the grease... I got so into getting the LEDs mounted and wired that I skipped right over it... Although since the stars are only screwed down, I could go back and squeeze a little under each star if needed.
I think the heat is transferring well enough to the heat sink, it was just that since the heat sink was enclosed that the heat had nowhere to go. Now that the top is cut out, it seems pretty cool.

Chris, Great Tank! What were the concerns you were hearing about not having the heat sink enclosed? I just put a single flat piece of acrylic on my diy setup as a splash guard, and thats it. I figured it would be fine since it is around 12" above the water surface.

:thumbsup:I like it! I love sand beds. I went over this thread and could not find some info I was interested in. How long have you had the T-5's on this tank and did you ever run MH and how long if you did? What is your photo period? Have your nitrates started going up as the tank gets older? Do you run Phosban? What are your nitrate and phosphates(Hana meter?) levels at? Looking forward to your response:) This is one of the nicer t-5 tanks I have seen, although I don't get around all that much:(

Hey, thanks a lot!!!
The tank is ~3 years old. I have had T5s the entire time, no MH ever used. 1st year was bad as I was a newbie and used lame bulbs. Once I discovered ATI/UVL/GE bulbs (from ReefGeek), and the right combination... BAM!!! The right bulbs, right flow, constant parameters have given me nice growth. Photo period is 12 hours (an hour of actinics on each end of 10 hours full). I have stopped testing Nitrates and Phosphates as I was always getting undetectable numbers (maybe just very low nitrates). I did think I had a nutrient problem as I had a very large green hair outbreak for a while. Changing bulbs and adding some flow fixed the issue. I still do get small tufts of green hair in a couple of places, but I just think they are in dead spots. I need to get my refugium back up to snuff to help combat. I do have ~20ish fish so my bio load is quite heavy (more food for coral), but it is tough to keep under control (weekly water changes, filter socks, and skimmer cleaning.)

Hey thanks!!!
Actually, the concern was that the heat sink WAS enclosed (see last post pics on page 4). No where for the heat to go, that is why I cut the top open and exposing the fins. I originally wanted to just use a piece of acrylic as a guard, but couldn't figure an easy way to attach it to the heat sink, how did you do it??? The ease of mounting the shield was the primary reason for the enclose (as well as somewhere to mount the dimmer).

Nice! Could you explain your dosing setup and regiment. Also water changes and salt used.

Thanks!
I dose alk, cal, and kalk top-off water. I use BRS pumps on timers for all three. Alk and cal are dosed on a 24 hour time line. Alk is does for about 15 12 times a day every other hour, and cal for about 20 minutes 12 times a day every other hour (off set from the hour the alk is dosed).
I do weekly ~25 gallon water changes using Reef Crystals. I have used many salts (IO, Red Sea Max, Tropic Marin), have found RC to do the job just fine.
