because this is starting to get a lil insane!

I busted out a ruler today, and its past 12 inches long ways.. by an inch to two inches. I thought it might split when i moved. but it settled right in. feeding it twice a week.

I know that some btas split more than others... but do some ever split? Its basicly taken 1/2 the tank 4 itself.
granted im not really complaining... but a bigger tank is in the near future if i want to keep any corals alive.

I thought i read once about the largest known captive bta, but i cant remember what it was or where it was

hmm, I think about 30" or so is the biggest one I've seen. It was in the display of an LFS. It was a rose and looked sort of funky because the naked disk around the mouth was so big. I didn't think it looked very attractive at all. Mine was around 16" or 18" before it split and now one clone is about 5" or 6" one about 10" and the other near 12" across, it's hard to tell though as they are tucked into crevices in the LR.

wow. I bet it did look weird. I know what you mean. mine looks kinda like a cartoon sun. wide disk. I never expected it to get as big as it has.

Well... I kinda did a bad thing today.. sorta. So Im now in the market for a 200 gallon tank anyways. *grins* After deciding a CB was a bad idea.. I went back to my lfs and was sitting there looking at my three choices i narrowed it down too.... a cannary blenny (nope, jumps) a shrimp gobie.. (uhuh doesent 'swim' enough) a yellow hog... na. would eat my shrimps....

*sigh* I bought a baby 1 inch sailfin....I wanted it so bad from the get go. after qt if all gos well with introductions... Ill be getting a pretty large tank *heh* and another mh.. and another skimmer.. and, and lol 45 just isent big enough for me :D

IIRC,
Zoom had/has a RBTA that loks large enough to eat a small child. I think he said it was something like 18+ inches and had never split. That thing is/was a monster.

im lookin at a 125 with stand and canopy for sale on cora right now. good price but i donno how id set it up. Im not familler with canopys. and Id have to set up a sump for my skimmer... well.. i was complaining about being bored just hours ago. so i guess i have a project

if it's acrylic adding an overflow is super simple and less than $100 total.

A canopy is just a tall lid for the tank. Mount your lights in it and go. Personally I'd look at T5s for a new system. I might be changing out my iwasaki for T5s soon.

its a glass oceanic. so would i mount the whole pendent or take the socket assembly out of the pendent?

I have an 8 bulb t5 laying upstairs. bet this tank is big enough. but Ive heard alot of mixed feelings on t5s. my tank has def exploded since i got the 250 mh.

My skimmer hangs on the back. I fear id HAVE to build a sump. well... id hafta buy a new skimmer anyways.... I should buy a lotto ticket. birthday cash isent gonna cut this one lol

edit.. hey dan.. this guy just posted this to me. mind checking it out?

its set up for fresh i guess. I donno a thing about vho or converting it. seems like a steal tho.

Around here the $850 is about right, I've only heard good thing with T5s and will probably be converting my 72 this year.

You can also hang the pendants and not use the canopy. I wouldn't cannibalize either pendant for the canopy.

As for VHO 440 is not nearly enought IMO for that setup. I have 220W or VHO as actinic supplementation on my 72

cool. I thought the vhos werent great. I think im gonna offer 800 for this one

no lights, no sump, and its empty now. Ill have agood 6 months to figure out a setup, cycle it etc.

I have an 8 bulb t5, think its 450 watts. would hafta look. may look into selling it and just get another 250 mh, ditch the canopy until i can research plumbing a sump, and buying a sump.

looks like the one in the picture has an overflow. At least there is a loc-line outlet on the far right which is usually the return from a sump.

Why pay almost as much for the second when the first has lights, sump etc. ?

You should check in the lighting group but I believe that 450w of T5 will give more PAR than 500w of MH.

we have one(RBTA) in our local Zoo and it is easily 22" to 24" (maybe bigger) across.. i have pics in my gallery of it..

those are some long tenicles! Im taking myself to the columbus zoo this week. never been there. hope it has some sweet saltwater!!!
