SoCal Reefers Accountability Partnership. Who's with me?

Hello all, I've been a long time lurker on this board. I have really gotten into the fitness thing around March of last year. My goal is a bit different from some here, but the basic principles are actually quite similar. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of false information, or just not so good information out there in the fitness industry, due to there being so much money involved. I will share some of my advice from all my research and personal experience into this for the past half year or so, if anyone want to hear/follow it.

Anyways, I should put my progress and goals here also:
* Was about 160 lbs around end of 2012, not fat by most American standards, but also didn't have that much muscles.

* Really watched my food intake for a couple of months beginning of 2013 - dropped to 152 lbs.

* Started a good lifting regime around March of 2013 - saw great strength gains, weight went up to around 157

* Found the good dietary program that I am on now - strength kept going up, while fat went down. My strength was at the highest point in my life, I was lifting numbers that I couldn't even image I would ever be able to lift before. Went on a cut to try to drop some more fat and try to finally get that six pack without flexing - managed to mostly keep strength up while weight dropped to ~148 lbs.

* Then I was out of the country on travel for most of the month of December. Returned just before New Year, but had to move out of my old apartment, just found a new place now but haven't moved in yet. This almost 2 months of interruption has set me back a bit - strength went down and weight went up.

Anyways, I can help share some information if people are interested in fat loss or muscle gains or both. But here's one quote I read, that I feel is really good for those trying to lose weight: "Don't try to out-run your mouth". What that means is, majority of your weight loss should be coming from your diet. Don't try to have a bad diet and make up for it by doing exercise, that's not very sustainable. This is a long term process, so you need something that you can keep up, ideally for the rest of your life.

Keep it up Rik!

Thanks for the input and the great advice about diet!

The "don't try to outrun your mouth" is a great quote! I need to pick it up on my cardio which is lacking. But something both my wife to be and I are going to push for is a lot more hiking exercising and eating healthy has become the norm now were just cutting weight and want to take up hiking.

I think hiking Griffith park in a group would be a pretty fun thing to set up.

Got a gym membership and finally restarted my lifting routine this morning. My strength has dropped quite a bit in these 2 months that I was off, and my weight actually dropped a couple of pounds compared to November. I thought I had gained more weight since I gained a bit of fat, I guess I just lost more muscle than the fat I've gained, resulting in a net weight loss :headwallblue:

Anyways, it's good to restart again. Hope everyone else is seeing good progress. Here's another tip, keep a log of your body weight, but don't worry about short term fluctuations. Your weight can change by almost 3-5 lbs from one day to the next just from water weight fluctuations. If you use a program to track your progress, you can plot it over a longer period of time (> 1 month), and you will be able to see the long term trend over the short-term fluctuations.

Days 16-25

Haven't checked in for awhile but not because I have been slacking off. In fact, quite the opposite. I have been walking to work and walking as much as I can. My wife and I even walked together to the market today. I have been going to the gym as well. Seen a lot of improvement in my cardio work. Really have taken to the elliptical and been riding the stationary bike at some higher levels of resistance and some different programs for long intervals of time. Today is also day 14 of the Daniel Fast my wife and I have been doing through our church. We have been completely vegan for 2 weeks now, no meat, dairy, sugar or sweeteners of any kind and only whole grains and no yeast or leavening agents plus no chemical additives. We have drank only water. We have one week to go so will have some fun snacking for the Super Bowl. It has been pretty easy actually and have had some really good meals. Tonight we had these vegan enchiladas and they were so awesome we plan on making them as a regular meal in our home. I would pay to eat these in a restaurant! I have lost about 8 pounds and my clothes are starting to look and feel big. I feel really good!

Haven't seen any updates here in a while, hope the OP and others have been keeping up with their exercises.

For me, have had some ok progress, could be better. Recently, seems to have tweaked my wrist a bit so holding off on the benching, which means it will take longer for me to reach my next goal, which was based on bench, before I can move to the next phase.

OP is doing well. Truth is I had fallen off a bit and put 4-5 back on over a month but I'm still down and back to doing the right things.

Good for you Brent
