does anyone have a softy bare bottom tank? or is it kind of an oxy moron?
corey

Great question, I've tring it for the passed 6 months but I've seen not much growth with all my softies, my guess its I stripping the nutrients since I shiphon all detritus every other week. Sucks, I was told sand/substrate will cause old/tank syndrom and crash in time so I went with BB. Went well for the first few months but I've seen a decline mostly with my zoa's. I'm thinking about adding sand but I don't know what type is the best for low water flow?

Any thoughts on brad65ford's ideas of no luck w BB softy tanks
Corey

Thanks for trying for me Cory. I've read that having sand creates a sink which I believe turns the detritus into nutrients/beneficial bacteria for softies. Ive also learned that a sand bed can lower alk / calk but doesn't seem to be as needed with softies compared to sps's. Though I have seen some bb softies/zoas tanks working well but I don't know their setups. Having a bb tank without a sump, overflow and no sand IMO isn't easy but what do I know for some it's to easy lol.

Here is a halfway decent pic of mine, the corals are still getting adjusted to the 250w halides over their old T5's.

Thanks.
The "ball thingys" were just some socks with some coal and rowaphos, I forgot to take them out before filming. Unfortunatly I don't have this setup anymore, since the aquarium released 20% of the water onto the livingroom floor 3 days before I took of for my Eastervacation to Indonesia. I managed to save more or less everything, and sent them on vacation to a friend of mine's tank. Then it was insurance company, drying the floor etc before take off.... Had already bought a new tank, so I will go and pick up my new 720 liter ~ 190g on Sunday, set it up, let it stabilize for a week or two, and then off to get the babies back home...

The Elos has been running since Feb 2010.It is getting ready to come down and a 75 edge rimless is going into its place. It will be 75 gallons of softies.
