hi firstlight... our original 90 gallons had a very fine black sand and it really wasn't that great for tank maintenance since it was like powder....

our 6 gallon we had a generic black bag of live sand and loved the granular feel of it. so, for our 125 gallon tank we actually bought bags of live black sand - loads of them... it was the standard oceanic? bags of live sand. they also have a salt and pepper sand that we used for our 12 gallon and looks great.

other item of note, we had a harliquin shrimp that ate a chocolate chip star and there are lots white pieces we can't get out... so be careful on what you bring in there unless you want a sant and pepper tank.

The reason I asked is my tank has black sand that is a fine powder that isn't great for tank maintenance so I was curious if there was a black sand with a larger grain size on the market. I ended up with a salt and pepper tank also since I layered regular live sand under my black sand then had to move the tank so my layering got messed up. On my next build I will definitely go with the Oceanic sand.

This is a beautiful tank. I love your arch, especially w/ the gorgs growing on it. Can you tell us what gorg spp. you have in your tank? Also, has your rabbitfish been well behaved? I have always been a fan of that spp. Thanks.

Actually, the rabbit fish has been quite well behaved, and is the most personable fish in the tank by far. I appreciate the positive words, unfortunately I'll be selling the tank in the near future. I had some positive things happen in my personal life. However, I hope to be re-planning a new system soon.
