Softies and SPS together?

Is it impossible to keep softies and SPS together?
I have a 90 gallon mixed reef. The softies in the tank are 3 toadstools, 1 yellow figi, and various zoos. I have some caps in my tank that do fine, but am wanting to add some other SPS to enhance the overall appearance of my tank.
Are there any rules of thumb to keeping these together?
Is it that bad?
Any thoughts welcome
Thanks,
Cubman

No but you may slow the growth of you SPS somewhat. If you are not worried about that you should be fine.

Run Carbon

No, many people keep mixed reefs and have great success. Just run a lot carbon and you should be alright.

mixed reef

mixed reef

I have a mixed reeftank.
You will have slower growth on your sps and need to run carbon

I have a 95% SPS reef with a few of my favorite softies. I love my Palau Sinularia and neon green polyped sarcophyton. I've had my tank like this since pretty much day 1 so I'm not sure if the softies actually DO slow the growth. Its there any real documentation of the softies inhibiting SPS growth? I do run carbon of course and my softies are fairly small.

This is a really embarrassing question to ask, but what is the best method to running carbon. I have some and have run it in the past, but it hasnt been necessary before so I really never perfected my method.
Are there any rules to running carbon?

Best not to mix sell or trade and dedicate the tank. All sorts of strange things have been reported bleching, slow growth, illness. Not sure how much carbon removes. These are too expensive to take chances.

I used to use a canister filter for a few days on and off. Since energy prices went up I just run the carbon in a filter bag from time to time with the natural flow through the sump.

If I run carbon, for how many days can I run it?
Once I remove the carbon, can I put the SAME carbon back in a few days later, or do I have to use FRESH carbon?

IME running carbon fluidized is best for maximum absorbancy. But there are also down falls.

I run 3 tanks passive and one fluidized both work well.If run passive kneed (not crush)it every few days .
