two awesome looking fish, that i want to get but refuse to because all i've heard is that they are veryyy aggressive

They're pretty much the same fish, just different collection locations as I understand. I'd get the sohal, I like the colors a bit more.

Sohals tend to be hardier than clowns, so I'd get the sohal even though I think the clown looks a lot better.

both species have a downright nasty temperment and require at least an 8 ft. 300 gallon aquarium (minimum) as adults IME/IMO.

Either species might kill already established fishes.

Thanks for the opinions... keep them comming

iam considering trying one of them but my tank may be a little small @ 7ft x 2ft x 2ft still in the i want this fish i want that fish but i want this fish stage the tank is up and running but fishless at this time projected first fish is christmas ( hint to the wife)

Yeah i understand the sohal or clown tang should be the last added but i have to decide which one i want to to pick out my fish colors around the sohal or clown tang i dont want to much of one color and not enough of another color.. and the christmas hint to the wife is for a male personifer angel not the sohal or clown tang

I just got both of those fish in my 120gls this thursday...so far the sohal is the dominant one. ive read somewhere that sohals are hardier. Those are the only fish I have in there..So far the sohal looks better/ alittle more fatter The cown is doing fine too

Like all fish, there are exceptions to the common wisdom. I had a Sohal in a previous FO tank, and it was not aggressive at all.

I like the looks of the clown better, love the colors in him, but they have a really poor survival rate, a sohal is also a amazing fish, but I would be niether in a my tank as I have seen first hand the aggression. I tried this once I but a regal from someones tang, and a sohal after qt, both in the tank at the same time, I 195 gallon. These where the last two fish, they where both about 3 inches. With in 24 hours the sohal was flat out killing the regal tang, I had to completely take apart my tank to get him out.

I hope you plan on only a few fish then
any time you put the first fish in the think the house is theirs.
Territory is the first thing they fight for. Each fish does have it's own disposition though. So you never know when the Giant will awake. Good luck I love these fish too.And yes givin room they grow quite large

And they are not the same .
One Sohal And 2 Lineatus

I understand they're not the same fish, they do have different species names, but there's a reason that the Sohal is also referred to as the Red Sea Clown Tang.

I have a sohal in my tank. Full grown.. he's a little mean, but I have been able to keep any fish I have tried with him. I have a blue tang, 2 yellow tangs. The other tangs know who's boss, but otherwise no real problems

I have a Sohal...In my opinion this is the trophy fish of the hobby and I love the colors. He has been absolutely perfect to all of the fish including, yellow tang, regal tang. Even added a foxface and a flame angel after him and he could care less. NOW, I also have a Sailfin tang, and the sohal does beat up on him quite a bit. BUT So do some of the other fish at times, I don't know if he goes around the tank flexing his fins on everyone and talking trash but no one seems to like him at all. I have even seen my green chromis chase after him. So he must be talking crap or something. But if I have to trade a Sailfin for a Sohal, then so be it.
