Solana tank owner thread.

Ooh.. I have the logo curved back glass and no green edge. I bought it for 300 with a current outer orbit that I sold off for 120. So basically a Solana 34 starfire for $180! Score!

Hello All,

I current have T5 lighting w/ 2 blues, 1 white, 1 purple bulbs along with an LED moonllight strip. That said, I'm getting ready to make the jump to LED lighting. I am a fan of the purple spectrum as well, so that is somewhat important, but not a must.

AI SOL Blue:
399.99 + cost for mounting option. Very nice looking, just have to decide how I'd mount it. Also, no purple in color specrum, nor moonlights? I assume I could upgrade it to add that spectrum.

18" Panorama Pro LED Fixture
399.99 + 69 or 89 for mounting option. Again no purple spectrum in this setup, but def. can add it at additional cost.

I'm interested to hear fellow Solana owners thoughts and setups that you enjoy!

I'm running the Panorama Pro. Originally I had the Panorama (non pro) and my colors browned out. I found out I was running too many whites w/ not enough blue. Old setup was 4-12w white/blue panorama, 3-12w blue panorama. We sold all of those light and now I'm running 2-19w white/blue panorama pro (reduced to 50% power), 2-19w blue/magenta panorama pro, 3-19w blue panorama pro.
My colors are the best I have ever seen them. Everything is growing at a great rate. Very happy w/ this combination.
Hope this helps!

Guys quick question on the stand if you don't mind. I got mine all put together but I'm stumped by the back plate. I'm talking about the piece that looks like a 2x4 not the cardboard. The manual says it goes on the back with wood screws but there don't appear to be any pilot holes anywhere on the back to attach it to. Any help?

Are you talking about the piece that goes horizontal on the back right underneath the rim or top of the stand? If so ours has holes in each corner that screws into the center of the wooden legs.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. I'll look again, but there are no pilot holes.

On ours I can feel the holes where the screw goes in. Sounds like the board didn't get drilled.
All I can tell you is if you place the board on the back of the stand the holes would be directly center in the wooden stand legs on both top and bottom.
Can't get a pic since it's up against the wall.
Good luck!

It's been a long time since I set up my stand but the pilot holes would be on upper part of the legs to give a solid anchor. That bar is to hold the Current arm for their disco light. It's not structural and you can leave it off. On the other hand if you plan on building your own light arm you may want to make and attach a second similar support lower down. It's far easier to do it before you put the stand near your wall.

Thanks

I double checked and there were no pilot holes. I'm actually putting a different tank on the stand and will use a Kessil with a gooseneck so I don't need to the piece it sounds like.

Other than that, the stand was fairly straight forward to put together and seems more sturdy than I thought. Definatly sturdy enough for a 12 gallon tank.

Well it was a little tricky but I am now running a Bubble Magnus nac3e skimmer on my Solana, as well as a phosphate reactor. I got sick of trying every nano skimmer and being disappointed. Here are some pics of how I set it up after trying many configurations and failing. I now have to keep the rear chamber much higher then I would like but its worth it. Any questions?
This is after running 24 hours, and it a wide cup, thats a lot of skimmate.

---------------------------------------
Intake in the first chamber, output in the middle chamber. I had the intake in the corner of the display but that quickly drained my display and I almost had a flood haha. It would work if you had a bigger return pump

--------------------------------
As you can see it's a tight squeeze to fit the skimmer/reactor but it works
