Solana tank owner thread.

Hazey, I do weekly 5g water changes.

I used DD H2Ocean for a long time, then switched to Brightwell for a few months. Once I started really monitoring my Ca/KH/Mg and dosing, I switched to Red Sea Coral Pro (higher in ca/kh/mg so less dosing quantity is the idea).

Is the Tunze Nano 9002 Skimmer from intank with the modified cup silent??
I have the stock skimmer with some mods and the noise of it is driving me crazy!

We just sold 2 of these on eBay w/ inTank cup. Didn't like the skimmers at all and very loud IMO. Drove me nuts to watch TV in the same room.

We are now using Hydor Slim Skim Nano. It is creating a lot more skimmate than the Tunze and (BEST PART) you can hardly hear it. I would recommend looking into the Hydor.
Only issue is it has to go into the second chamber unless you're willing to modify the first chamber some.

Good to hear on the Hydro. However my 2nd chamber is spoken for with media basket & dry box for mp10.

For Tunze owners, there is a pill bottle mod for the tunze (so I've read) to help silence it, I haven't bothered because my tunze is already quiet. The real issue for me with the tunze is the performance, little to no improvement over stock. After giving my stock skimmer away form friend modded it and it does a GREAT job.

Just bought a used Solana but it didn't come with the lockline. Is it propriatory lockline or will any generic lockline fit and what size? Hopefully 3/4 because that's what I bought today...... It looks like most people split this also - any thoughts?

Thanks, Bill

Are you running mechanical filtration in chamber one? If so, how are you going about doing that?

Any updates on the Hydor Slim Skim? Was anyone able to get the regular version to fit inside the second chamber? What is the skimmate production like?

We have the Hydor Slim Skim in our Salona. Works awesome. It is currently in the second chamber and we made a DIY rack in the first chamber for carbon, floss and so on.

Thanks for the reply. Is the skimmer quiet? Anything to compare the production to?

Also, just curious, but is anyone still running a 250watt halide on their Solana?

Has anyone pulled out the black overflow cover in section 1? I saw someone did it in another thread but I dont think he checks RC much anymore. Im wondering if removing it creates a waterfall effect. My biggest concern would be noise.

Wanted to finally post a couple pictures of My Solana. Its been up and running for five months.

Nice tank E!

I had a new piece of glass cut for my lid yesterday turned out pretty good. If one jumps out of the hole it was just meant to be I guess. Was really sick of dealing with lifting the light and lid everytime I fed or tested.

Has anyone removed the plastic overflow part in the first chamber of the sump? The part that holds the foam. My new JNS WS-1 doesn't fit in the second chamber but it will fit in the first if I remove that plastic.
