Solana tank owner thread.

We have the Hydor Slim Skim in our Salona. Works awesome. It is currently in the second chamber and we made a DIY rack in the first chamber for carbon, floss and so on.

I've thought about doing this as well, but a lot of people have told me that the first step for filtration has to be the skimmer. In my own head it does seem that if you run a carbon reactor prior to the skimmer you're going to get more buildup in the reactor pump and in the reactor itself, no?

I would love to know what kind of effects having the skimmer second in line has on tank parameters.

I'd be curious to know more about your results.

Carbon will remove proteins from the water so it will effect performance. However, does if really matter if the skimmer or carbon is taking out the proteins, as long as they're being removed?

Lately I've been reading about carbon and how it loses effectiveness after a very short time in our systems, and after that it can leach phosphates. Because of this, I'm going to keep the carbon in the tank for a few days, take the carbon out, and then replace it with new carbon in a few weeks.

Just curious, what are you guys using in the filter part on the overflow? I've been using those marineland rite size filter pads but they seem to clog up within a few hours. I need to find something that will last longer.

I do not run anything in the first overflow. Tried several things even a new replacement from cardiff and it always
backs up for me as well.

nova65ss Who cut your glass?

Local glass company it was 40 bucks and I broke it a week later by accident.....

Last night while doing maintenance I managed to crack the return outlet(what the elbow pushes into in chamber three) Does anybody know where I could find a replacement? Is that part a 1/2" Loc Line NPT connector? Will I need to convert the return plumbing over to 1/2" ? I think stock is 5/8"? Any info or advice would be great.

Hey, just bought a IM AquaGadget - MiniMax-MidSize-Media Reactor- Max Volume Capacity 350ml. Hoping to fit it in the middle bay..lets see how it fits and works out...Stay posted

Sweet are you taking everything out of the middle chamber? I was going to get it a while back but everyone was out of stock. Keep us posted on how it works out!

Yup. I'm going to cut drip tray as I need to fit reactor. Hopefully I can fit some of tray to keep some of the fabric filter. Even if I can keep an inch of dray.
Ill post pics of mod.

I recently inherited a 34g solana AIO. I was looking at it today getting ready to set it up and i noticed a small strip/chip of glass is missing on a corner. a piece of glass fell off that is about 4 inches long from the front piece of glass in the upper right corner. It didn't go down to the silicone, but just by a tiny amount.
It starts almost at the top of the tank and goes down about 4 inches.

I have it full of water and it seems to be doing ok, been about 3 hours so far. Its hard to get good pics...

Should I be worried? Should I add eurobracing? Should I silicone it?
Thanks!

Anyone have or know where do get the plastic clips that hold the glass canopy in place. I lost one and have been looking online for a replacement with no luck.

I called Current but cant get anyone to call me back.

Thanks!

Battle, that doesn't look good. I wouldn't keep that running as-is.

I got the reactor installed and it Went well installed in the middle chamber. I will post pics tomorrow on how I installed and mod the plastic cover of the chamber.

I need help with a skimmer for these. I'm fed up messing with the stock one. Are there any good skimmers that will fit in the first chamber without me having to do any mods? hob or in the chamber works.
