Solana tank owner thread.

The hob 1 will fit in the first chamber without me having to do any modifications? Awesome, I've had my eye on that one for awhile.

It's a hang on back. Not sure about whether or not it will fit because I'm using the WS-1 (the drop-in version). But I've heard of people using it.

Made a top for my tank Sunday the spring already had my temps up around 82 with the glass top. I went to get bird netting and they were out so I took a chance on the plastic stuff. It was a little tuff to work into the frame but it turned out pretty good. We will see how well it holds up. You can see I still need to trim some of the excess but I ran out of time on Sunday.

This is what I used from Lowes

Proud owner of a "new to me" solana 34!

It came with a rio return that I want to replace but can't figure out how to disconnect the current one from the "bulkhead" on the back wall. I can unscrew in the nut on the tank side but then what? I think the coralline has really glued that part together. I don't want to force anything that shouldn't be forced. Anyone have a picture or a good description of how that part comes apart?

Also, what return pumps are you guys using? Looking to quiet the entire setup down...

Welcome aboard tenpercenter!

I just replaced my return pump and ran into the same problem as you. For me, I just grab the hose and L connector just pops right out of the bulk head. Replaced hose with one that fit new return and put right back in.

As far as upgrades and stuff, I basically bought everything here:

I use to run the black replacement filter (link above) in my overflow, but with this new return pump the water isn't pushing through that filter fast enough.

Thank you both!

Just to be clear calistyle, you remove the lockline inside the tank, unscrew the nut on the tank side and just pull the elbow away from the dividing wall right?

I didn't have to unscrew anything. I bought my used so maybe it's not a standard install.

From inside chamber 3, I grabbed the hose, followed to lockline and was able to just pull the L elbow from bulk head, still attached to hose.

I use the rio 1400 which is rated at 70 GPH higher than the sicce. Any problems using the sicci 2.0? Any benefit to the higher flow? I use an mp10 in tank so I could probably get away with less flow right?

Slower flow through the rear chamber should help the skimmer work better.

Can anyone comment on flow? I was originally planning on going with an MP10 as I used one before but with the price tag of at least $200, the $50 WP-25 is starting to look like a good choice. I like the footprint of the MP10 but besides that, it doesnt have much to offer that I can't get from the WP-25

I run the MP10 from back wall, about 6 inches down (middle chamber) with dry box in reef crest mode at 60%. I just purchased another one to add more flow.

I have an MP10 and a Tunze 6025. I'm happy with the flow overall, but if I went with an SPS dominant tank I think I would look at adding a 6095. Right now the MP10 is fine but I only have it at about 30-40 %. Any higher would be louder and the flow isn't as wide as I would like.

I use 1 mp10 and a koralia behind the rocks. mp10 is on 80% reefcrest for most of the day. I'd love another mp10 but not sure the tank could handle the flow (have a sandbed).

Maybe my question should be rephrased. I was planning on using the MP10 but since the WP-25 has come out, it is seeming like a optional choice.

Should I just shell out the cash for the MP10 or go with the new WP-25?

Well, this is my first time posting on here (reefcentral, that is) and I am planning on getting one of the new superbrite 34 gallon solanas! As of right now, my plan is to buy the tank, have the back drilled for a custom overflow and return, then paint the back black. I'd like to have a sump in the cabinet underneath with all the hardware there as well. My question is, where can I find a stand for these tanks? I've looked tons of places but have been unable to locate where they can be purchased! Thanks!

Maybe I should rephrase my answer: MP10 is the way to go. If you need more info about the WP25 knockoff pumps there is a huge thread in the equipment forum. ;)
