Solana tank owner thread.

ronbis,

1. I have the MP10 which I think is plenty of flow in my mixed reef, but I also upgraded my return to a Quiet One 2200 on a 1/2" SeaSwirl, which creates a lot of flow.

2. I've heard the ball fixture gets too hot to mount a moonlight on it. I'm using this 1-watt LED http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1366
I attached it to the false backwall with ZooMed MagClip.

3. The tank is big enough for a sixline but you might lose him if you don't cover it. I got rid of my flatworms with a Springeri damsel. Yes I said damsel. I swore I'd never own one, but I was desperate. He cleaned up the flatworms amazingly quick and was a model citizen. I was sad that I lost him when I moved the tank last fall.

To get rid of the flatworms, I would dose that thing with flatworm exit. Follow the instructions carefully and it will get rid of them. Just make sure and dose again 1 week later to get rid of the few stragglers. I would do it now before you get your tank to heavily stocked.

ronbis, First congrats on the new tank. They are neat AIO's.

1. MP10 will work great. I have mine turned down to abut 25% of max flow. Lots of room to go more if needed.

2. I ran Chemipure (not elite) and Pruigen in the bottom of the 2nd chaber for a while. Seemed to work well. With my new setup it was easier to just run a reactor. I think the reactors with carbon and GFO are better. That said, most do great without.

3. No input sorry.

4. I have six-line in my tank. He is a great fish and works well.

oops messed up my numbers--I've run ChemiPure Elite since day one. It's in the middle chamber on top of some live rock. I change it every 90 days. I've never had a serious algae problems in this tank. No skimmer, 5 gallon water changes every 7-10 days.

Filled my tank up with water this weekend:

I tried flatworm exit twice, about 3 days apart. The directions called for 4 drops/5 gallons but I increased it and used 50 drops for the solana. Killed a lot of them, but they are still in there (not a ton, but some still). I hate the way that stuff made the starfish in my live rocks writhe around and didn't want to kill them so I used 50 drops the second time too. Does anyone know if flatworm exit kills feather dusters? I don't want to do that. Might try one more time at triple or quadruple strength.

Thanks for the replies. Going to order an MP10. Still undecided about the phosban reactor though.

4" is pretty close, you can do that if you want too but it might heat the water up. On my last tank I think the halides sat about 10-12" off the waters surface, mostly so I could reach under them if needed.

Solano pump

Solano pump

Anyone change from the stock solano pump? I'm wanting to use a mag drive 350gph. Since I added the chiller lost 120 gph due to head pressure. I know I could pick that back up with mag drive, but will it fit? Anyone else using mag drive?

Hey, i'm having a little bit of trouble setting up the Solana. I've got the sand, live rock, and water filled in the tank. But how much water should I have in the back overflow compartments. I think I way too much, as it's probably only an inch from the rim of the tank. Any help is appreciated.

Thats too much for sure. I keep mine just below the level that the skimmer section feeds. So where your skimmer feeds next chamber I went 1/2 inch lower than that in 3 chamber where return pump is.

I have mine filled to the little ridges in the third chamber that are intended to support the cruddy included ATO bottles. Just works well as a reference point for me.
