Solana tank owner thread.

Real Estate gets scarce real quick In these little tanks, May need to add a second story addition soon or start gluing frags to the glass...
Bill

You can say that again! Space for coral runs out real fast in nano tanks. I'm not used to this. I miss my 55g with 85lbs of LR in it!

I am going to be out of room after this new set of coral frags. Then just need to let them grow out and frag when needed.
Though I have toyed with the idea of getting more LR to put more coral in. I'm addicted to getting new coral! :eek2:

No need for you to go to the frag swap this weekend Bill (poolkeeper1). :) You were not kidding about having 60 frags in there. Gonna look awesome once they grow out. Probably will need to get rid of a few as they grow. I can take them off your hands when the time comes. ;)

Absolutly, Your sure to get some frags when the time comes! Been thinking about a little Ca reactor setup that maybe me and Rick could throw together for cheap, Then the coral will kick Into high gear like my Big tank, Plus they could start drinking too. Started with a little Vinegar today as I saw more Cyano In the sump. I cleaned It all off the glass and mixed the Vinegar In with my Mrs Wages.

Just a quick update to my setup. Here is a picture of the resulting work I did on my fish closet and refugium/sump. More details and photos are in my homepage thread.

Cooper Inc and nirvanaandtool, thx. I think I finally have the equipment and closet where I can leave well enough alone. Hopefully I can find a nice piece to put in the display this weekend and my club's swap. I am thinking of adding an acan.

I used to have an mp20 and now I have an mp10 and I love it. I can't tell a difference and the footprint seems much smaller. Honestly it feels as though it pushes more water than the mp20 did.

Depends what you want to keep. I don't remember the flow ratings off hand but I would say the MP20 will be much better long term. I had one in my solana and it was perfect at 100%. I since sold it and am using a modded K4 that is putting out over 2000 GPH now. As SPS colonies grow, they need a lot more flow than when they are frags, just keep this in mind.

If you just plan in LPS or softies, I would go with the MP10.

I have almost nothing but sps and my mp10 is putting out plenty of flow. I will say though, that I will upgrade to an mp20 as soon as I can find one used for a good price.

I have the MP10 and have it dialed down to 25% of maximum flow. I can not imagine needing more flow than what it can produce. It is also noticeably smaller which is nice.

I'd go MP20 if I went with a Vortech. Because chances are, I'm goingto upgrade in two years or so and its an easy upgrade from the 20 to the 40W.

I was running 2 modded Tunze 6025s (@ somewhere between 900-1100gph each) but I turned off one and just running 1 right now and my LPS and softies seem much happier. SPS seem fine with the lower flow. With the two on, I was just beating the hell out of my softies and frogspawn with flow.

I plan to upgrade to a MP20 eventually but the Tunze powerheads are doing their job well for now.

If I may ask what mod did you do to the Tunze, As I have one. Did you cut the teeth out of the shroud? or something else. Also I just bought a new controllable Sicce Voyager 2 and It's pretty cool wide soft flow that I have set to every 5 seconds on/off
Seems to be a pretty good pump for the money, right about a 1/4 of the Tunze price so I'm happy just kinda larger than I would prefer but has a great magnet and good adjustment variables. Also absolutely silent and no vibration or clicking when On/Off

I cut the tube from inside the shroud that kind of sits around the impellar. Frees up a bunch of flow and makes the flow wider too. Its plenty of enough flow for the Solana for now until my SPS frags grow.
That Sicce seems pretty nice, especially for controllable. Thats the one issue I have with the Tunze - not controllable.

I just threw the MJ900 in to replace the stock return pump. So far so good - I zip tied the stock return tube around the 900s outlet rather than use a new return tube. Works fine. Water level in the display is a little lower than the stock return at the lowest setting.

OK Thanks, I have not heard of that mod so I may give It a try, But It has plenty of flow stock. The Sicce Is also variable that you can control the amount of GPH like the Tunze only done much simpler with a twisting flow cover. KISS Is sometimes the best way.

Yea its a nice little mod - just makes the 6025s even better. Originally I did it cause I thought I was going to set up a 75RR but then when I downsized my build to a Solana due to lack of space in my apartment, I decided to just use the Tunze's anyway since I had them laying around.
Thats pretty cool. They sound like a nice pump. Good option for a controllable pump.

Hello everyone. New Solana owner joining in! I've been eyeing this tank since it came out. I have been in the hobby for 17 years, but this is my firs all-in-one tank. Now I have a new baby boy and need to simplify a little and am downsizing from my 95. A few questions:

1. I am planning on having a mixed reef. I already have some zoas, a maxima clam, pavona, monti digitata, and a green slimer. Will a MP10 take care of me? Seems like it should. I made the mistake of buying a Koralia 1 but it's not doing a whole lot.

2. For phosphates control I was thinking of just using a chemipure elite. Would a phosban reactor be redundant or helpful. If I run the reactor would I need the chemipure? If not, I would use the center section for a fuge (would this also be redundant phosphate control?)

3. I am using the disco ball light. Anyone know where I can pick up a DIY moonlight kit to add on/into the ball fixture?

4. I have flatworms... I am thinking about trying a six-line wrasse. I have already dosed flatworm exit twice, but they are still there! Is the solana considered big enough for a six-line

I am on the road right now but will post a picture when I get back.

Thanks!
