Solana tank owner thread.

For people with the Current USA sunpod (20") that comes with the 6 LEDS

What exactly are the white and blue LEDS for?
I hear moonlighting and actinic lighting... Are the blues Actinic and the whites moonlighting?

Can i keep both of them on all night, or should i have a period of complete darkness for my tank??

Just trying to sort this out

kweli, they are just simple moon lights. I leave em on right now all the time but will put them on a timer to come on after my tank light goes off.. You don't need them, they don't serve any really function except allow you to check out your tank and nite and making feeding corals easier. (Although some people will debate the need for a moon cycle).

MedRed Chamber 3 is about a 1/4" past where the plastic plate for the top off bottles would have gone.

This thread is huge! I have not been on in quite some time, and was just wondering what skimmer and what chamber everyone is using these days. I have the Tunze 9002 with SteveT collection cup in the first chamber. Have been happy, but the pump died on the skimmer. I just wanted to see if there was something that was better before I shelled out $45 on new pump.

Just got a Solana 34 used from craigslist. I am missing the filter material as well as the bio balls next to the protein skimmer. I read that most people remove these anyway due to flow issues? Anyway could someone point me in the right direction to find the missing filter supplies? I tried to google them, but I am not having any luck. My tank is currently filled with tap water (leak test) while I wait for my ro/di filter from ebay.

I am missing the following
1. Surface Skimmer Pre-Filter Sponge
2. Filter pad for top Drip Tray (blue one)
3. NanoBall Filter Media (in bags)
4. Activated Carbon filter media (in bags)
5. Bio Balls next to protein skimmer (larger balls not in bags)

Thanks so much!

John

Most filters/sponges need to be replaced, so you wouldnt have wanted to use the previous owners stuff anyway.

I purchased large filter floss to use ontop of chamber 2 (cut to fit)

Fluval 404/405 filters (cut in half) work perfect for this tanks pre-filter. Make sure the filter is about an inch or 2 below the overflow teeth.

Dont need any balls.. as for carbon you can lookup chemipure

I also bought a used Solana and also was missing some of these. I emailed them and got the following response

Thank you for contacting Current-USA.
Our SubCurrent replacement filter (#8027) pack contains the same carbon bags used in the Solana, although you can use any carbon media available at most fish stores. The filter pads that come in the SubCurrent pack are smaller than the original but also can be used, or you can purchase generic filter pad and cut it to size. The surface skimmer pre-filter sponge is part # 7135. These are not available through most local dealers- These can be purchased through the following replacement part dealers:

Marine Depot 714-385-0080 www.marinedepot.com

Marine and Reef 877.878-9349 www.marineandreef.com

Nano balls can be bought from other people also like Aquacave here on RC but are on back order

Where to get a Solana 34

Where to get a Solana 34

I'm getting back in the hobby after a move 5 years ago. After researching many AIO tanks, I really fell in love with the Solana 34. I’m having a lot of difficulty finding one for pick up (N.J.) and I found few online which seemed overpriced. Are they discontinued? I was hoping someone may have some information as to where I can get one. I am willing to travel a bit or buy online for a reasonable price.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m really hoping to get my hands on one of these beauties!

anybody have any problems getting the sapphire skimmer to work? I bought mine used of here. I cant get the skim to get as high as the cup nomatter how i set it. any ideas?

Chrissy, check with any local shops that carry Current products. You may have to special order the system with a LFS.

Kevan-How far down in the chamber is the skimmer?

Well I got a BNIB 250watt Sunpod for the tank when I bought it and was planning on using that but am worried about a little heat now. I wont be getting crazy with SPS in this tank like my 210g but more softies for my wife and possibly a small RBTA if it can be done. I was offered a 20" Nova Extreme Pro T5 6x18 fixture for this tank for under 200 still NIB.
Would it be beneficial to switch the lights for less heat and less energy use with my plans or stick with the MH version. Lighting smaller tanks has not been my worry the last 8 yrs as they have all been big systems with VHO/MH combos in them.

I have this problem too, I have to take the cup out and give it a scrub weekly with vinegar and water. The grime (normally black/brown/green) stops the bubbles from reaching the top of the cup. You should notice a film around the mouth of the cup.

Clean it up, spick and span.. and you should get your bubbles back:beer:

Where in NJ?
I picked up mine from Aquarium Center in Clementon, NJ a little over a year ago. As far as I know they arent discontinued.

Call the nearest local fish store and have them order the Solana and stand for you. It ships freight to their door and you dont have to worry about UPS or FedEx delivering a smashed up tank to your house.

HELP!

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get clear water.... I think its a combination of pod molts and microbubbles....

Details:
-Tunze and return nozzles are not causing the sandbed to be disturbed to much
-I have the stock skimmer, turned this off for 24hrs and still no improvement
-I have kept the chambers at the proper levels
-I have cleaned both the skimmer AND return pump with vinegar
-I have chemipure in the 2nd chamber, I dont have any other filters in chamber 2. I do have fluval in the prefilter area and a filter floss inside the skimmer waterfall area (although the package says it doesnt trap bubbles)

What do i need to do to a) reduce bubbles, and get the debris to either go in the overflow and get out of there.

I also moved my tunze from the overflow side to the opposite side (to push the flow towards the overflow)

how long has your tank been set up? could it be a bacterial bloom? any fish that like to dig? any pics that could help us identify the issue?

Are you responding to me, or someone else? Clear water?
IF so... No i dont have any fish that kick up sand, only 2 clowns
I do have nassarius snails, but they are pretty good with that aswell

I think its a micture of microbubbles and molt particles... Ill try to get a picture but its very small
