Solana tank owner thread.

Hey folks..we have a 25g, 18" cube. It came with clips and a glass lid...the only problem is that water wicks over the clips causing water to drop down the tank at all for locations where said clips are located.

Anyone have this issue? TIA!

Most don't use the glass lid as water tends to collect on it as well as it traps heat and limits the GAS exchange and it impairs the lighting. If you feel you need to cover the top due to jumpers your better off using screen rails and pond screen with the 1/4inch holes and let it sit on the rim rather than those clips. the amount of flow and surface agitation needed for a reef tank make those clips impossible to use without frequent salt creep cleanup

Ahhhh ok...thx man!

The tank is a part of my 4 tank mancave gig lol. It stays pretty cold dwn there and because of the dust, grime and dirt of our basement plus other "contaminants" in the air, ;) , I chose to use the lid. I'm not too concerned with the small pair of clowns jumping though. I'll leave the lid off for now...I can't see putting anything other than a glass lid on a nice rimless tank.

I was using the glass cover over mine until it cracked. Haven't replaced it and don't really plan on it. Just praying my solorensis wrasse doesn't get jumpy.

Excellent!

This tank was originally in my wife's office but it was a bit loud and distracting for her so I added it to the basement menagerie lol.

I took the skimmer out when it was at her office to cut dwn on the noise. Do many of you use the stock skimmer? This is specifically the Ecoxotic 25g, but I believe they bought it from Solana so it's the same animal.

Here are a few updated shots of my cube...

***Disclaimer: The Yellow Tang is only in this tank because i just downgraded and transfered everything from a 60g cube saturday. He's being taken out of this tank as soon as I find a nice home for him*** ;)

Now I just need more corals

Thanks for looking!

im a year and a few months in on my 34G and ready to bail on it... need a sump so I can run a decent skimmer.

Just did a scotch brite mod to the stock skimmer... its my last hope.

You can see a couple videos of my dieing tank here: http://www.youtube.com/twebinc

just a quick update.. a local reefer had a sapphire skimmer with a mesh mod'd mj1200 powering it... holy s$%$ does it pull out gunk compared to stock. The algae is receding and things are looking up these days.

Bottom line is I should have done a new skimmer a long long time ago... and also should have run GFO from the start. However having said that... having a float switch keep the water level within a few cm constant in the back chamber is damn near essential before you can dial in a skimmer for consistent performance.

Next I'll be replacing my 150w orb pendant with 22 DIY 3w cree's. Just need to update my reef keeper to 2.0 so it matches my ALC firmware and figure out a way to suspend it.

do u have any luck after u did the scotch brite mod to the stock skimmer?
i am planning to get a 34 solana, i also wanna modifty the stock skimmer, considering the scotch brite/ mesh or even change the skimmer pump to mj1200 with mesh.

Vortech!

Vortech!

well i finally talked the fiance into letting me buy a vortech.....well kinda
ive been playin with the modes and was just wondering how you all were setting them, what modes seem to work the best for you how strong of flow.ive got mine set on ecosmart ntm mode about half power but was wondering what you all were doing with yours?

No longer a part of the club... Broke down my solana and parted out all livestock.
Traded it to a friend for a 20" reef ready acrylic cube and sump. He wanted an AIO and I wanted a reef ready cube so it was a perfect trade.
New tank is screaming for a O. scyllarus mantis shrimp lol
