Solana tank owner thread.

New pics of my Solana.
Currently only has 1 fish due to losing two in QT to ick. Let the QT sit empty for 2 weeks just to be safe and now have the QT started back up.
I need to up my alk though - using Oceanic salt and the level is pretty low. Also want to convert the 2nd chamber into a mini-fuge with chaeto.

Anyway onto some pics.

Thats about all for now. Its coming along but I need more fish and more coral. Hopefully more will go in during this month.

hey all, can anyone show me diy build on a stand please? my friend bought the tank, but he wants to build him self the stand and i was wondering if anyone here has build one? i really appreciate...

I have a Solana setup also. Anyone else use chaeto in one of the filter compartments? I leave the cover off the tank and filter so the cheato can get efficent lighting also.

its been a while since ive shared pics of my tank tell me what your guys think she has been up about a year. tell me what you guys think.

I have some in my 2nd compartment. I use a magnetic LED light made for such applications. Works very well. Having a separate light allows me to run it opposite from the main lights and helps with pH dips at night.

Some very nice tank shots posted above. :)

Mine is still very new. Just moved a few weeks ago after having the tank up for a little over a month. Just now finally got over the typical diatom and algae outbreaks. Spent some time today doing regular maintenance and mounting some new corals. I am pretty pleased with how it is coming along. Here is a current FTS. I will be putting more photos and detail in my build thread shortly.

Tank is looking good.
Love the huge cave under the LR - bet your sixline loves it too.

Would you mind posting a link for the LED light you are using for your chaeto? Im looking for some sort of light to run on an opposite lighting schedule as well.

can anyone provide me with a source for a good ato resivour that fits in the solana stand? preferably in the 5 gallon range.

tia.

nirvanaandtool - The light I used for the cheato area is the JBJ Nano-Glo 4-LED Magnetic Refugium Light: http://www.marinedepot.com/JBJ_Nano_Glo_4_LED_Magnetic_Refugium_Light_Refugium_Sump_Lighting-JBJ_Lighting-JB9315-FIRFRL-vi.html

I do not recall paying as much as listed in the link. It does work very well and my cheato grew like crazy. I did not clean it for a few weeks and the ball was huge.

There are cheaper solutions like the inTank Mediabaskets Underwater 5W Light: http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Underwater-5W-Single-Light-5WLight.htm. But I like the higher light of mine. Helps with cheato growth and generally with pH swings.

i'm not sure if i'm happy with my nova extreme pro over my solana? i dont seem to get the color pop from my corals that others have. is everyone else using this fixture happy with it. i pulled out one of the 10k and added another actinic but still not satisfied. anyone have other light recommendations for me?

commabc - I am not thrilled with my NEP either. I did the same bulb swap as you and am only barely satisfied. The fixture is great, the bulbs and size of them specifically are the issues of course. When I had my 125 with a 72" NEP the bulb choices were wide open. I used several other brands and got great color and growth. Being stuck with 2 different mediocre bulb choices from one company sucks. If not for cost, I'd probably ditch the NEP and go with a 24" T5 model I can actually get bulbs for.

i wonder what is taking so long for some of these companies to start making different colored bulbs in 20". do you think you will wait it out and hold on to the nep?

Gotcha. Thanks a bunch for the link.
Looks like a great little light for chamber 2. Price is a little higher than I wanted to spend but if it gets the job done that well, it cant be that bad.

I might look around for some cheaper solutions. Trying to find something that can be submersible or can be attached to the back of the tank and shine through the glass to chamber 2. Just keeping an eye out on the submersible's cause I've read that some will add a decent amount of heat to the tank.
Might try to look for a submersible bank of led's that I can put in the chamber for a cheaper price than the JBJ one.

How do you have your second chamber arranged? Just floss on the first drip pad, cheato and then the second drip pad to stop chateo from going into the return pump? Trying to envision how it will all play out in that chamber.

I'm pretty sure my Chromis just had babies... I don't know if there were eggs and they hatched or if they're a live bearer. I can't find any information about them on the web, but I have about 25-30 little fish swimming all together in a corner of the tank and the only fish I have multiples of in the tank are Chromis so I would think they would have to be them... I've had all my other fish for several months so I don't think one could have came in prego... I'll post a video later to show what I could capture...

For now, I have the following top to bottom. A filter pad on top of the first black divider -> Cheato -> A Purigen and ChemiClean sandwich loosely zip tied to the bottom divider to keep it all from floating up.
