Anybody using one of these?

http://www.current-usa.com/nova_extreme_pro

I see that they have a 20" version...

1083 20" Nova Extreme Pro 6x18watt T5HO 3-10k/3-460nm actinics 2 108w 20" x 12" x 4.25"

1092 Optional Hanging Arm Kit <- has anyone used this hanging arm kit on a Solana stand?

LL

Here is a great price on one... sold by Current USA on eBay as it has been refurbished

20" NovaExtreme Pro 6x18 watt T5 HO Model#1083A W/SLR

This is a great price for the light I bought the Outer Orbit model from them and couldn't tell what had been refurbished

how do you like the hanging kit? does the arm hold up your light pretty good? i'm looking for some arms too...was thinking about getting the zero-edge lamp tree but don't know if i want to spend ~$175 for it...the price on this kit is a lot more enticing...

Build your own light tree I followed these instructions and it works great....

Do It Yourself â€"œ An Inexpensive (Light) Hanger Kit

I was actually able to buy a new one for less than the eBay Buy it Now price, plus got free UPS Ground shipping...

light,

where did you pick up your fixture for that price? the lowest Ive found it for is about $250 shipped.

Would you believe Linens & Things?

Note the Dads Day 10% discount only good for a couple more days... shipping is free.

WOW! they really mean "things" in the "linen 'n things"...that would be the last place i'd expect to purchase lights let alone anything else for my salt water tank...

nice find by the way...

My tank came in!

FYI the dry dock is 1/4" too long to fit in the 3rd chamber and flush with the front of the barrier.Otherwise it fits in the compartment just fine. That may be a good product change to enable it to work in either chamber.

I really like the hanging kit. I was looking at the zero edge lamp tree too but the price was killer and you have to drill the current fixtures to make it work. The great thing about the one I have is it is made for that fixture and other current fixtures, so it's a perfect fit. I was skeptical at first, but I've been pleased.

Sapphire Skimmers

Sapphire Skimmers

I just spoke with Kyle at Sapphire Skimmers. They are now finishing up production of an upgraded skimmer for the Solana. It will not require a "shelf" to bring it to the proper level. It will truly be a "drop-in" unit with no further adjustment needed.

The new skimmer will also come with a new mesh impeller for enhanced foam production...gee, sounds just like the "big" skimmers... same price.

Ordered today; mine will ship tomorrow.

I'll post some pictures on how it works after I get some bio-load in the tank. I'm just circulating water now.

Thanks for the bad news! I need to email Kyle and see if we can get a trade in and trade up credit for the new one...that would be awesome!

Filtration ideas for the Solana

Filtration ideas for the Solana

As mentioned in the previous post, I will be swapping out the stock skimmer for a new Sapphire model.

I tossed a nylon ankle stocking filled with about 16 ounces of carbon in the second chamber. This is a temporary step.

On a permanent basis, I plan to fill the second chamber about halfway with well cycled live rock rubble. Then I will toss the carbon "stocking" with about 8-10 ounces of carbon on top of the LR. I think this will give a good level of filtration to supplement the skimmer...

Agree? Disagree?

heard it restricts flow in chamber 2...

If you lift the dry dock box up about 1/4" from the top of the tank and mount the VorTech, water should flow fine underneath it. There will be a small amount of restriction but some have said it works fine for them.

I was concerned with this method because if the box and magnet of the VorTech slipped and the box rested snug in the 2nd chamber, that would cause restriction and water would then flood my skimmer, and well all kinds of bad things could happen then.

I just decided to play it safe. A 3rd chamber box might be a safer idea.

I saw this and was a little upset because I just ordered mine last night and saw a shipping label for today, so I thought I was getting the old one, but I called and mine will actually ship tomorrow and be the updated skimmer as well so I'm stoked!!! I like new toys!

I've been guided not to use any live rock rubble back there, from others on the NR site, they said it just builds up with crap that can cause levels of nitriates/nitrates/ammonia to rise. So they were all suggesting against it. But I'm not saying not to, just telling you what they told me not to do.

I just saw it mentioned here so I called and asked and he said I was getting the new one, so he told me not to worry. He just said it was a full drop in model, there is no bracket, which sounds sweet to me.
