Solana tank owner thread.

i guess one plus side to the teether idea is that when it starts to degrade you wont bits of shrimp floating around. btw every time i see that teether i laugh because i know i have a few sitting in somewhere in my kitchen... guess it goes with having kids although my daughter never really liked them.
 
yes. both fish doing very well.
both very healthy. I can't vouch for the happiness part since im not a fish in an aquarium and although we try to mimic the ocean it's never gonna be enough space for them. *Not being negative*

thanks for the comment. I plan to upgrade someday to an elos system. (wish me luck)

I'll jump on an elos 70 system. but yea i've been reading a lot about the mini having some issues with the micro bubbles and some other stuff.

Anybody have a sundial T5 24" on the solana? Have you had any problems keeps SPS, acros, or anemones?

i just got my new light and it lights up the back pretty well. I want to remove the filter floss and throw some cheato back there. i already have some ruble and want to know if this will work out wel
 
I am not sure about the back being able to be drilled, but I thought that the whole idea of the Solana was so that there didn't need to drill or have any outside sump area.
 
my initial plans were to drill it and plumb a sump to it.
i contacted current usa and they told me that the glass was not tempered. I thought it was too risky to drill such a beautiful tank so i left it as is. ALL IN ONE ROCKS!!!

Thanks guys. I understand the idea behind the all-in-one, but I am just thinking ahead and want a good skimmer, in-sump just gives more options, I want to run gfo and carbon in two reactors, rather than passively. I want to grow macro as well as add a vortech. I have read this whole thread and some people have made used of the space available very creatively. I am just looking at some options. Good to know that I can drill it. thanks again.
 
I would wait and see what other options of tanks similar to this one you have, that might already have holes drilled? Or look at a custom tank that can be done to your liking?

Actually they said, you can't drill it.

Why spend more for a solana if you're going to do all that anyway?
Just get a plain tank
 
What is it about the Solana you like? The size and rimless? If so I've heard rumors about some of the "custom" aquarium builders tanking notice of the popularity of the rimless tank craze and wanting to get into that business by starting their own line of rimless tanks, so I bet you can get a good made one with holes wherever you want...custom made to your liking.
 
Ok all you Solana owners I am having some issues with my new system, It has to do with microbubbles.

The tank has been cycling for 1 week and at first they were being caused by the skimmer and that seems to have pretty much gone away. Now I turned the skimmer off today and there is still tons of bubbles coming from the return. I tried the polyester batting suggested earlier in this thread by sitting it on the grate in the second chamber but that doesn't help at all. Next I made sure the system is full and I now have the water level above the ATO plate in the third chamber and it is still throwing bubbles.

Any suggestions where I can investigate next? I am thinking air is getting into the return line possibly? The tank is against the wall full of water ant I never really checked out the path the water takes through the chambers so I really don't know where they can be coming from?

Any help would be great :)

Yeah that line near the bottom where it attaches to the pump comes loose on me even with no water in the tank, check it.
