Solaris Led lighting systems

nice,

but still out of my price range. for something like this i'll treat it like the xbox 360 and later this year the playstation 3.

wait for the prices to go down and for them to work out any problems ( if any ). before investing on a lighting system.

might need a bigger tank to :)

SouthWest Saltwater has a 72" up and running on a new show tank in Tucson on Speedway, It's amazing the tricks it can do. I'm sold even if it's based on 2 years development.

I cant wait to see the difference although it may be really difficult to get a true comparison with photos. We all may have to rely on the descriptions/opinions of users until we all get to see this for ourselves because it is difficult to capture lighting unless you really know what you are doing with cameras and white balance etc.
:)

I saw this at my LFS on the weekend, and it's a very nice looking unit. The output definitely doesn't seem that powerful though, IMO it won't be "SPS ready" for quite some time. I would compare this to VHO or PC lighting. Not sure about T5s though.

This would be great on a softie/LPS tank. I put my hand under the light, and no heat! Definitely the lighting of the future, but I need something that will be able to keep SPS. When that comes, sign me up for one! :)

All of this seems a little like arguing about which car is better... a lot of it comes down to the preferences, desires and needs of the owner.

IMO, LED lights are the future. I would imagine both the light output per LED and the number of LEDS per inch of fixture will go up, and the cost will come down within a few years.

Nothing wrong with the early adaptors to the technology! If I had the resources now, I would be on the "bleeding edge" too.

nice lookin tank:thumbsup:

No kidding. Which MH light setup is that?

Well after all the anticipation, waiting and brouhaha :hmm4: ...... A power supply failed . PFO isn't open yet this morning, so I have not had the opportunity to call them to express my disappointment, frustration, displeasure..... (how many more adjectives can I come up with). So, today, my old Orbit MH fixture goes back up and the waiting begins again....... Good thing I took the day off. :(

Ok, so it wasn't a power supply like I though. It seems to be a bad cable connection, after the troubleshooting. PFO is overnighting me a new cable, I'll hook it up tomorrow and see what happens. Good thing I took tomorrow off too :(

I have been wondering what/how the Solaris is enclosed and blocks out any salt creep. I would think that the salt creep would be horible on a fixture like this.

Yeah, back when PFO first announced the unit months ago, I screamed 'bloody murder' because the unit was designed to have a USB connection for the option of programming multiple modes. I said "you know a USB port is a power connection, and an easy way to short out the whole unit as well as the computer its connected to in the event that any salt finds its way into that port? WiFi would be a good solution though, that way the fixture could be programmed from anywhere in the house" PFO replied "Yeah, we werent sure about that USB idea", and killed it right there. Just be glad that that option didnt make it to market... USB can be finicky enough as is.

Here's tank with Solaris Lighting. Sorry for the window glare. Will take better pic's when I have another person to help.

Man, that sure shows blue(which I prefer anyway ) in comparison with the MH . Please let us know any changes +/- with the health of your corals. I am extremely interested to see how well this system performs in the long run.

Been reading along silently! :D Not sure if this is right or not but can't you control the leds and have as much blue as you want? It's adjustable?

I like the looks of it!

got2lb, you can control how much blue there is. Everything is adjustable. I have it set where 'Day Whites' and 'Day Blues' are both 100%
