Solaris Led lighting systems

I think this sounds like a very cool feature makes it replicate daylight and evening settings.Thats someting you can't do with mh fixtures maybe with a dimmable t 5 ballast and a controller but this system seems to have much more play. Can this stimulate spawning in corals would be neat to see.I have never used moonlights myself just plain mh with pc on a timer.

Yes JNB I own a saltwater shop. I plan to use all Solaris in the shop by the end of 2007.......MH have got to go by summer though. Checked the lights and moons are on as scheduled.

Steve, the controller features are awesome. Best I have seen so far on any system............

i chaned lunar on from 801 to 800 - the system remained on its auto settings sunrise started around 8:06 and finished 8:40 ( i had increased sunset by 5 or so minutes) - the daylights went out and the lunar light have not come on at all now

wow your shop will be way cooler in many ways

so far looks nice. How would you compare the solaris to a mh system.Do you think its giving off enough light to keep higher light corals. My tank is 36 deep for me this wouldn't work.My tank is empty now but I plan on going bigger 265 to 400 gal,265 is 8 feet long 400 is 10 feet.I know I wouldn't be able to afford 2 x 4 ft lights or 1 x 6ft and 1x 4ft.I don't have the cash for it.Like I said in other posts the light seems very good and I like the fetures but the price tag is out of my range.I am a spender but my wife curbed my habits.I was out of control with this hobby. If I could afford it I would buy it.If they would come out with a cheaper model without the light controller I wouldn't buy it simply because the controller is a very nice feature and I would rather have all the bells and whistles. If you are going to do something do it right the first time.

I for one, do not know yet; in a couple of weeks which will be at the point that the solaris has been installed for a month and a week, I will be studying pictures that will show any growth that I would expect under my old system for comparison to my solaris - so far, the two acros and montys seem happy with color and no noticable degration of color. everything else in the tank is looking good. people comment about shadows, etc which, to me is not a negative because when I go diving around a reef, there are shadows from parts of the reef blocking other parts of the reef and it is natural to me.

you will always get shadows when you are in the ocean its only normal. We are trying to light up a cube. Its more simple to do that.I think its nice to have a unit that can replicate sunny ,cloudy conditions at random.More realistic than lighting up a cube with bulbs on a timer. Will this make any differance in growth, who knows we are still trying to keep an animal in a small cube.Would be interesting to see if you get a better growth rate with this lighting system.

I will be shocked if its better growth than my 250 times 2 20k mh fixture - I am expecting less than with the the mh - I just want a healhty cube, shimmer, cool, quite running able to support some sps if placed higher if needbe, and able to leap tall buildings.....-

There are lots of people out there who can grow sps with pc lighting. It just not as fast as with MHs. I think your sps will grow but it will take a couple months to really notice the difference. Please keep posting updates and pics when you can. I really appreciate it. I hope PFO is working on adding more LEDs to get a wider spread for guys with 24" wide tanks.

agree, will do, and so do I

Got the replacement Solaris to replace the one with shipping damage. They now have 2 green LED on each LED bank for color. Never needed anymore color IMO but they say it will help green corals stand out more.

I wonder if they'll incorporate 1 or 2 red LED's per bank, too - you know, like some Japanese reefers do to bring out colors.

Man this is one long thread! Anyway I have not seen anyinfo on retoro kits coming, also Pat if your reading this, make me a light for a 90 corner tank! Us corner tank owners are out of luck so far!

I wouldnt doubt it... yellow/indoor 3000K ones though, since they have a good deal of red in them already and are brighter. Since T5s seem to have such coloration problems from the narrow spectrum outputs of some bulbs, I have no doubts that mixing LED colors will be more and more important in the future. A solution for T5s where there is loads of blue but the corals dont color in well is to add a GE 3000K bulb.

My solaris is 2 mos old and WOWIE!! Holy grow those corals batman. All the flack about par and pur and output and penetration...hahahaha. acros, clams, sps, lps, lmnop!!!growing and lookin great!!it's all good! no heat,no clutter,no chiller,no ugly algae,no timers,no hot ballasts,no nothinjust beautiful corals and color and life a flourishin!!!yup!!!hahahahahahaha...Patrick you da man!!!PFO MEANS PerFect Output. Sorry don't be a hater now.

do you know anything about the green being a beneficial color (that the corals can use)

Is it possible to use Solaris LED system with a large tank? - And what should i use for theese to examples:

Tank number 1: The tank size is: Length: 180 cm., Width: 90 cm, Hight: 80 cm. (1300 liters)

Tank number 2: The tank size is: Length: 120 cm., Width: 80 cm., Hight: 60 cm.

Hope that someone can give me a hint.

Lomholt,

On your 180 x 90 x80 cm tank you probably will want to wait for the 72" 400 watt version because of the depth (80 cm = 31.5") Also, the width 90 cm (aprox. 35.5") is wider than a single Solaris is capable of covering so two units would be needed to adequately cover the tank front to back.

Your 120 x 80 x 60 cm would require a 48" 250 watt unit for length but again the width, 60 cm (23.5") would require two units to cover the full width.

The ballast boxes have a switch for 115 or 220 voltage, so you would be able to use them in Europe, probably with a plug adaptor.
