Some carpet questions

Well I have had my carpet for almost a month now and I have a question or two........ In the past 4 days he has moved up on the rocks. I know anemones like to walk but I thought they liked to be in the sand by a rock. the anemone is eating well a mixture of silversides and myst shrimp and is very sticky and responsive. I did just a water change to help a bit, the nitrites went up to 20ppm, everything was 0, temp is 78.5, SG is 1.025. If you can see anything else in the pics please let me know.

could be on the move to take out the competition. His mouth also looks like it might be gaping a little in the top picture, is that new or just transitory?

Yeah The mouth is open a bu, but I though that was just because of his position making it hang open a bit.

He looks great. It appears that he has just sunk his foot further in the rock crevis and this gives the illusion that he's not expanding as much. But in reality his foot is further inside the crevis. Mine has moved several times before finding "the right place". I let them go where it wants then re-arrange tank around it.

Ive had mine for over 3-4 years now (green carpet) and mine has been absolutly bullet proof. He has survived and thrived several tank moves and now a recent hyper-salinity due to inaccurate swing-arm gauge. ( bought a refractometer in time to correct the problem with out loss)

well I added some carbon and maybe if they are fighting a toxic war that will settle them down. He also just ate a whole silverside with no problems

What kind of lighting do you have? Maybe looking for stronger lighting?

Anemones in general will move anywhere in the tank to find the conditions they like best. So it may have moved up a little higher to get some better light.... to get a better hold on some rock... or better flow, either way its definitely fine and normal.

You might want to be very careful about keeping multiple anemones in one tank. I guess thats your 92 gallon bowfront or your 75 gallon? Its generally suggested not to keep multiple anmones at all. I'd keep an eye on them, as there may be a war soon .

I've had my carpet anemone for almost 3 years now and he hasn't moved an inch. Here's what I have found that often helps.
• Find an area on the bottom that has a "cove" like area in the rocks
• Move the sand from that area in a large bowl shape down to the glass
• Make sure there is good flow and good light
Then place the anemone in that area so that he can attach his foot to the glass. They like the protection of being able to draw back into the rocks, like a solid surface under their foot and like good flow and light.
What type of lights do you have? Mine is larger than a dinner platter when fully extended ( he was about the size of a saucer when I got him) and loves silversides and chunks of scallops. I feed him every other day and use Zoe Marine to soak the food in for extra vitamins and ammino acids. HTH, Marcye
