Some feedback on a nutty Zoa idea...

Okay, so I have this idea given to me by my wife about gluing some Zoa polyps to individual branches of a piece of dead birds nest SPS. Her thoughts were thus: cool looking way to utilize the dead BN skelly, and also and easy way to frag zoas by using my fragging shears to cut pieces of skeleton away as it colonizes... Any issues with this? Anyone done this? Or seen it?

Thx

I've done something like that before. I wanted to mock the way this looks.

The thing is zoanthids grow by encrusting onto the surface around them, especially if it's exposed to light. Anything branchy like that has very little surface area to begin with, and only a small fraction of that is really exposed to light. That's going on the idea that no top branches would shade lower branches.

My guess is you'll get about 1/3 the growth rate at best using branches.
