*Don't eat (just reiterating it)

Looking into possibly having some macro algae in the display, what are some fish species that you'd think wouldn't touch the macro. 180g tank.

Sincerely,
Steve

Anthias, basslets, clownfish, cardinals, chromis, damsels, firefish, dottybacks, gobies, hawkfish, hogfish, jawfish, lionfish, triggers, and wrasses.

Fish families that have zero interest in eating algae:

Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and Seahorses) nearly all are ideal for macro algae tanks

Callionymidae (Dragonets) ideal for macro algae tanks

Pseudochromidae (Dottybacks) ideal for macro algae tanks

Tetraodontidae (Pufferfish)

Balistidae (Triggerfish)

Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfish and Lionfish)

Antennariidae (Anglerfish and Frogfishes)

Serranidae (Groupers, Basslets, Anthias...) (male Grammas may rip off algae filaments to build their nest) some are ideal for macro algae tanks

Opistognathidae (Jawfish) ideal for macro algae tanks if there is a large enough sand zone and the algae are higher up on the rocks

Plesiopidae (Roundheads, Marine Betta)

Gobiidae (Gobies) several species should be ideal for macro algae tanks

Microdesmidae (Dartfish and Wormfish) most should be ideal for macro algae tanks

Chaetodontidae (Butterflyfish)

Fish families that may eat algae but usually do not touch ornamental algae :

Pomacentridae (Damselfish, Anemonefish)
- Subfamily Amphiprioninae (Anemonefish) eat green hairy algae, but should not touch macro algae
- Subfamily Chrominae (Chromis) should leave algae alone
- Subfamily Lepidozyginae (Lepidozygus tapeinosoma) doesn't eat algae
- Subfamily Pomacentrinae (Damsels) some do some don't. The algae eaters are usually the larger species, the small species we keep in reef tanks may take hairy algae but should leave macros alone.

Blenniidae (Blennies) the algae eaters of this family usually feed on film and hairy algae.
- Subfamilies Aspidontus, Meiacanthus, Petroscirtes, Plagiotremus, and Xiphasia (Sabre-toothed Blennies) leave algae alone

there are definitely more

Wow thank you very thorough replys!

Leopard wrasses do not (I think right?)
What about Genicanthus angels for eating the macro algae? LFS has a nice pair of Bellus. Are they known for munching?
