Hi guys on my tank I have 2 175 watt MH. I normally run hamilton 14ks. Yesterday I put in some 10k ushios to see what they looked like on my tank. Something that I noticed right away was the temp the bulbs got to. They got HOT I mean really HOT. Now the 14ks would get hot to but not like these. My question is do all 10k bulbs run this hot? I would like to possible get some XM 10ks but if they get this hot I don't think I will. I am looking for a bulb thats not so blue like the hamiltons thats why the change. Thanks for all the help

ps Yes I do have 2 fans set up in the hood.

all metal halide bulbs run hot no matter what spectrum (kelvin rating) you have hence why the fans are need....this is due to the fact the high voltage arc in the bulbs give off a great deal of heat.

I run a 250 Ushio 10000. My fixture has an in-fan and and out-fan, with 2 double-bulb actinics, and a glass bottom. The thing would get dangerously hot without the fans. It's cool enough to handle bare-handed with them.
