Some new fish...

Wow, sorry about your scribbled. Hopefully he will pull through. LA offers a 14 day right? Just in case the worst happens? I am still unable to get my french to eat anything but algae sheets, very annoying. Goodluck Recty.

So it has until this coming Monday to make it and show strong signs. If we're throwing out suggestions, I'd be asking if it kicks the bucket on day 15 are you up a creek w/o a paddle.

Since the fish hasn't been eating, I think we can rule out "constipation". Interior problems that cause lumps like that can be hard to diagnose, though everyone is right about the two most common causes of such bumps. The big trick is figuring out whether it's bacterial or parasitic. I'd try the Furan first, as internal infections from poor needle decompression are common and typical progress faster than parasite issues. If there isn't any sign of improvement within the first 4 days of treatment, than switch to the prazi. On the eating problem, the only thing I haven't noticed you mention trying is fresh mussel on the half shell...it's a got a very different flavor from clams and scallops so might do the trick. The good part about shellfish on the half shell, you can drop it in and back away to give the fish some peace and quiet to discover it and start picking. The Pavlov trick is really only good for fish that are already eating. Take an unadjusted and skitish fish and put it through those routines will only serve to keep it skitish.

Since I still know nothing, and only keep learning from all of you, I don't have anything to add but I just wanted to say I hope he pulls through for you.

Good Luck.

For those questioning LA's warranty, I'm not worried about that in the least. As long as you call in and document that it's having issues, which I have, they will just continue to extend the warranty until the fish either recovers or dies.

I had a tusk that took a month to die and they kept on putting out the warranty a week and when it finally did die, they instantly refunded me the $$$.

Thanks a lot, billsreef, you've pretty much agreed with everything I've been thinking. I'm not sure why LA would state it was constipation and telling me to feed it a pea when it wont eat seafood seems ludicrous to me. I got some Furan 2 and I'll be putting it into the QT tonight, we will see how it goes.

I didnt really agree with the Pavlov thing either but I'm glad you mentioned it, I'm stopping that right now.

I'll try to find a mussel to drop in, I'm not sure if I can get those around here.

When my Scribbled Was like this he would not eat. I called LA, and they told me that the reason my Scribbled Angel was in this condition was stress. They said to remove him to a QT, and he should be fine.

IMO, the answer that I received did not make sense, and neither did the answer they gave you.

I am not sure what could cause this, and I wish we could figure it out. I asked LA if I could send the fish in for examination, and they said not to. :(

I'm hoping he is healthy enough to live through a period of no feeding and treatment, but only time will tell.

He is now set up in a 29g quarantine with my first of a couple doses of Furan 2 going... looks like the water turned into light beer :)

Any progress so far, Recty? Sorry to hear about the Scribbled.
How is the Goldflake doing so far?
No real progress, but it isnt looking any worse either. I'm treating him with Furan 2, so tonight is when I'll add another dose according to the instructions, we will see if it makes a change with him.

I'm not even bothering to feed right now, all that will accomplish is a ammonia full QT, the Furan kills off bacteria so I dont have any type of biological filtration going.

When the Furan is out of the tank in 4-5 days, I'll try feeding again then.

The goldflake is doing really well actually. He has a nice shape to him, looks real healthy. I just wish he was a little bigger, I want to see him in my main tank.

I am glad to hear that the Gold Flake is doing well. I will pray for his continued health. :)

I hope that the Scribbled Angel will show some signs of improvement. Unfortunately mine never did. He never looked to get much worse, but never got better either.

Good Luck

I cant remember, did you treat him with anything or just hope he would tough it out?

For what it's worth, mine didnt swim like yours did in the video, mine still stays upright and swims around normally, not doing the whole drifting upsides down thing that your angel had going on.

I thought he was swimming a little sideways but I think that was more of a stress thing, acting like he wanted to be hiding in the rocks.

Now that he is in QT, he is swimming upright and seems pretty alert, I havent written him off as a goner yet.

When I first got mine, he swam upright. He had the bloat going on, but was indeed swimming normally. Then after a few days he started loosing coordination. But I can say, during the entire ordeal he was very alert, and his color was great. His eyes were clear, and he looked fine (other than the bulge and swimming habits).

I did treat with PraziPro. But cut the treatment short do to the fish looking stressed.

Well at this point, I'm quite all right with the fish being stressed as death seems to be the alternative. I'd rather him be stressed now and live, then stress free now and dead in 2 weeks.

I'm a little worried, I just checked him and the white area on his face/gills is a dark gray color. Is that a normal night sleeping coloration?

Sorry to hear that he is showing no signs of improvement. I wish that we could get a definite answer as to what is going on with these fish.

Yeah, me too. If this guy dies, I'd like to try another scribbled. Hopefully one around the same size, he is just about perfect.

I'll probably order another one from DD if this one dies and just make sure to QT it for a month or two before trying anything in the main tank.

Well, no better, no worse. This is day 3 of treatment and the bump is, if anything, larger than when I started.

I think I'll finish up the treatment which takes another dose and 2 more days, so I'll be done Saturday night, and run some carbon in the system to clean it out, then maybe on Monday night I'll start Prazi.

They said feed peas, for constipation... to a fish that wont eat and hasnt for 2 weeks. I'm sure he is real constipated on the water he has been drinking.

They also said try using garlic, in a direct reply to an email stating I've tried garlic, selcon, zoe, and plain foods of all kinds.

Bad advice ;) but they are completely fine with extending the warranty until the fish either dies or recovers, so I'll just keep treating and hoping for the best.

That's why I like Live Aquaria. This is the first real "mystery" disease I've had in one of my tanks and it took a while to manifest, almost a week until the bumps were big enough to make me wonder and they are going to replace the fish if there is problems, or just give me a refund. Most places my warranty would be up on arrival and I'd just be screwed out of the money.
