Some new fish...

I dont know exactly at this point... but no, I dont sue the lady. She is in trouble with the state for driving without insurance and I think the guy who loaned her the car is in trouble for having an uninsured vehicle out there on the roads too. But that isnt my deal, all that we are concerned about is getting the truck replaced and Kris' medical bills covered.

We have accident forgiveness and were assured even if this accident had been our fault, our rates would stay the same, so it shouldnt make our insurance go up at all.
 
Wow that blows big time. The Scribbled dying and the car accident. Best of luck man. How about more pics of the Xmas Island Emperor! Where did you get yours from? How much was he/she?
 
My brother who lives a couple towns away borrows my camera from time to time, he has it right now so no new good pictures of my angel ;) I'll get some though in a week or so probably.

Where did I get mine from? Christmas Island!

He was purchased for an undisclosed amount :)

I'm thinking I might add a butterfly into my mix, I had a pair of semilarvatus before from the Red Sea, I really did enjoy them, good little fish.

I've always liked the Red Sea raccoon butterflies, that would probably be a good fish to add into my setup, I think.
 
Well, I dont have my good camera, but here is a picture of the goldflake, he is doing great.

Here is a picture for size comparison with my other fish... everyone likes him except the achilles, and even the achilles is slowly coming around.

Wow, that goldflake is tiny, the achilles is pretty small too. Your duss and emp are just huge! I liked when the goldflake came back out to say F you! Haha, great! Right before that, the duss protected the GF from the achilles, did you see him boot the achilles tang back? Gorgeous fish! Can't wait to see whats next!
 
Yeah, I'm not sure that the dussu cares much for the achilles. They dont ever fight like start tail slapping or anything that drastic, but the dussu definitely lets the achilles know when he should be moving somewhere farther away.

I dont think the achilles ever stands a chance either, as the dussu could possibly double in size in my tank and that achilles will probably only put on another 4-5 inches.

The dussu and the emperor are both around 7-8" now, they dont seem too big to me but I was used to that niger which was a little over a foot long with streamers ;)

What is next is a Red Sea raccoon b/f ;) I get it in on Wednesday. It will be in quarantine for a minimum of 2 weeks, probably more like a month and a half since right now I'll be hypoing the main tank for at least another month and I'd rather not acclimate the b/f down to hypo and stick him in, I hear some butterflies dont handle it very well. Of course, they dont handle copper well either so who knows...
 
Sounds good. I hope the bfly will acclimate to the tank ok. They can be pretty finicky and wimpy. Hopefully he goes unnoticed. Sucks you cant change your stocking around, the bfly and GF would have gone in first, followed by the achilles, then duss and emp. Funny how things work out. What size is the bfly?
 
4-4.5", I think I'll be OK with it, I'll get it eating really well in QT and disease free and what not, so it should go into the main tank healthy and happy and ready to rock.
 
Yes, I'm sad about the scribbled, it was a beautiful fish. I probably caused some of the problems too by not quarantining, so I feel bad about that too.

The goldflake does look good, doesnt he? FAT little sucker.

I've got four Koralia 4s and two 3s in there, plus about 1000 gph return flow, so they get blown around but they really seem to like it. The back of the tank is calmer so they can go there if they want to but they really just like to go out in the turbulence.

I have seen that video, it's great, isnt it? Watch it in HQ for sure.

So the little goldflake just died today.

I'm not really sure what caused it. Yesterday he got basically stuck in a rock. He wasnt jammed in there, but he swam into a large hole where there was a lot of current whizzing past, and he couldnt back out. He just had to swim in place and I bet he was in there for at least 8-10 hours until I noticed he was missing and then turned off the powerhead. He swam right out after that and went back to his normal spots. I never did see him eat again though, then today I came home and he was laying dead on the bottom, not a single mark on him.

Sucks, I really liked him.

I actually got a PM from another person who received a similar sized gold flake from the same supplier and their gold flake lasted 2 weeks and then did the same deal... eating perfectly and just fine, then bang dead. Seems odd. Mine lasted 3 weeks and died, but still, weird that they both just up and died.
 
A number of years ago Morgan Lidster proposed the idea of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome in wild caught fish. Essentially the idea is the stress from capture, holding, transport, etc. brings the fish to a physiological point from which it will not be capable of recovering, even if it appears to for a few weeks. A lot has to do with the fish being held in things like tarp lined holes, old steel oil drums, etc., for a week or longer until enough fish have been collected to make the trip in to the major city where they can sell them to the exporters. Typically they are not fed during this period, as well as while at the exporter.
