Some new fish...

It's funny, the pictures make the water look nice and clear but it's really yellow tinted in real life.

Sorry man.

I lost my flame during hypo. It swelled up and died. My clown trig started swelling too and that was when I added salt back into the tank. Actually I sucked out water, added salt, stirred, poured back in....repeat.

My flagfin or poor man's goldflake is fine and in the display after a week in QT. It has been in since Saturday. The big blue line would chase it, but then stopped. The titan though would fly at it and try to get it. Saw that once and pulled the titan out. It is in the sump now. BTW, that fish is 5.25", much more than 4.5" I thought it was. But now nothing bothers it. The purple tang was the first to chase it back to one area, then the big blue, then the titan. Now none and I'm not sure when titan is going back in.

My opinion is too much change on the little dude and perhaps hypo was that final straw. I will copper before I hypo from my experience last year.

Your comment on the multiple QT's, I agree 100%. I coppered my 55 school tank and have the pbt in there as a big QT, the 10 with the queen trig is now copper too just to be safe.

So, either buy one new fish at a time, or in your case where most are being shipped in so buying a few at once saves money, multiple tanks are in order. A 10 gallon is fine for a fish 7" or less for a 30 day period. Most fish I should say, you have to watch, but about 5 lbs of LR, little $10 power filter from walmart and a shop light and instant QT.
That's cool your new angel is doing well, I might try one of those sometime but I'm really pretty much full up on angels at this point, if everyone makes it through QT. I still plan on getting a small queen at some point, so that will be 4 angels and more than enough for my tank.

I agree with you, I think too much change in too little time + hypo was the deciding factor in the gold flakes demise. Live and learn.

As far as hypo goes, I'm not even sure if I'll finish it... it will take me two weeks to raise the tank back up to 1.025, I might just do it now, start going up and QT the other angels for at least 2 weeks, not treating them unless they show obvious signs of disease. Then I'll place them into the main tank as long as they are eating well, and copper the whole display and just get it over with. My rock is dead anyway, I'm not worried about that.

Sweet fish! I hope they all get along. My majestic was mean.
He is in a 29g tank with 2 cleaner shrimp and the raccoon, hopefully he just chills for a while ;) Time will tell though.

Well, the cleaner shrimp arent in there yet, still acclimating BUT they will be in another 30 minutes or so.

My filter died on my 2nd QT tank last night, what rotten luck. So my wife is actually out right now buying a new filter and some of that bio spira stuff to hopefully kick start the biological filter of the new filter, plus I'm going to leave the old sponge in my tank so it should be OK and catch up.

I wish I had noticed it died this morning, I didnt realize it was out until I went into the room with the box of fish and couldnt hear the water fall noise.

Beautiful fish you got there Recty! I love the Blueface and the Majectic. The coon looks nice too, I have always wanted one. Hopefully they do well for you.

Thanks, they are indeed pretty fish and hopefully in good shape. They all 3 look good, nice clear eyes and no visible parasites or damage. I'm not really WORRIED about the blue face and majestic, but they definitely were in dirty water so hopefully they recover just fine from that.

They are both in the "optimal" 3-5" range, so they will probably make full recoveries and live long happy lives ;)

Yep, I've got the prazi and cupramine on hand, I'll be treating them with both once they've stabilized and are eating well.

Sooner, if they start showing signs of a bad outbreak.

Love the bfly and the blueface! Shrimp are cool too! I wish I could have them in my FO tank, but afraid my wrasse and eel would eat them. Plus I plan on getting a trigger or two. So if the majestic and bfly are in your 29g QT, where is the blueface? The water does look pretty clear, but I wouldn't worry about it. Mine came in looking horrible on my fish (I think its the additives they put in for shipping?) and all my fish were alert and healthy. Goodluck with the new arrivals. I wouldn't even worry about treating the display tank. I am assuming you are treating to get rid of ich, but I don't think ich is a real problem. Like they say, its just like a common cold, a healthy fish can fight it off. I know I have ich in my systems but none of my fish show it. I'd rather have actual "live" rock that is actually working than an killing it off for a ich free system. Maybe that was part of the problem as well, your rock is dead and doesn't filter the way it should, possibly even starting a new cycle? Just ideas, but I like my liverock to be full of life/bacteria to help with water quality.

My live rock is "live" in the sense that is is loaded with bacteria and filters the water. There just isnt little critters on it.

I have no ammonia and low nitrates, my rock is still working well.

I have another 29g QT that the blue face is in, he gets to be by himself with the pair of fire shrimp.

Well, I know you're supposed to not try to feed for 24 hours, but I never can resist.

The blue face and the raccoon both went nuts over my mysis mix, the majestic wouldnt come out of the PVC though.

But still 2 out of 3 on the first day, about 5 hours after they got put into the QT, I'm happy.

I havent turned the lights on yet, I'll start turning them on tomorrow though and hopefully it makes the majestic more interested in feeding once he is calmed down and in a more "normal" environment.

Sweet pick ups. My wife really wants a majestic but I'm holding out for some of the less common larger angels.

I'm interested to see how your Majestic does. I had considered getting one, but didn't because they can be shy, but then some say they can be mean. I guess it's up to the fish. Great Blueface.

Maybe it's just me, but you really dont see majestic angels much, at least I sure dont.

I guess I'm blessed to have at least 10 LFS within 30 minutes of me that have a good selection of fish. I won't buy from most but almost all will have a majestic at least once a month.

I'm going to take it slowly with this guy, long quarantine, make sure it's really healthy and all that before adding in with the big boys. He is small enough I hope it isnt a real problem, but only time will tell.

If it doesnt handle the display tank well, I already know of some people in my town who would buy it, so I'm not too worried.

Sorry to hear of the bad luck, especially with the Goldflake, they are beautiful Angels, but don't seem to travel well.

Good choices on the new additions.

Hope the Achilles keeps on doing well, still my favorite fish I have ever kept.

Sorry if I missed it, the shrimp are for your big DT? Your angels will allow such creatures? I have 2 cleaner shrimp in my little tank and love em, my Wrasses would love it if I put them in the big tank.

Well good news, I woke up this morning and all 3 fish were swimming around and actively searching for food.

Interestingly, when I walked into the 2nd bedroom, the butterfly isnt scared of me a bit but the two angels both bolt for their PVC hidey holes. Does that make the angels smarter? Or just more skittish than a butterfly?

Anyway, all 3 fish are eating now. The majestic picked at the mysis shrimp, he wasnt eating TONS of it, but he did eat at least 3-4 pieces while I watched. The blue face came right out when the food smell started circling and he gobbled down a good amount of mysis.

The raccoon is weird, he is pulling in the mysis, chewing, then spitting out about half of it... it's like he is getting all the soft stuff off but not actually eating the shrimp.

Those 2 angels have always been more of a cave/rock hiding angel as compared to the emp and queen which are always out.

Glad to hear the news.
