Some of my Fluorescence In Corals photographs

There was a 24 hour sale that just ended (don't think I am aloud to say the name here). You should have seen the prices of those chalices! On sale for $699, regular price $1200 (this is per eye). I will only go for a designer if I actually like it and it isn't one of them that has prices like the chalices mentioned earlier.

Great pictures! What kind of zoanthids are the first and second pics?

That's absolutely insane. There are so many interesting corals that can be obtained for a fraction of the price. But well, if nobody would buy a $1000 frag no vendor would try to sell for that much. Anyway, chalices are great subjects for fluorescence photography.

Great job! They remind me of the images in this RK magazine a few years back: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-11/feature/index.php

That's a great article and was one of the factors I decided to try it myself. Thanks for sharing

Great photos again! What kind of zoanthids are in the first and second pic?

Thanks, I forgot to reply you:) The zoas in first pics are called Rose Nebula and they were my favorite zoanthids until asterina starfish killed it. The secons zoas are just regular green skirt with brown center ones.

We're not into designer corals, either, all our other corals were under $30 & bought because we liked them...I just about choked when my boyfriend picked that chalice on looks then asked the price. It was his bday money, though! I keep coming back to look at how it will look all grown up LOL.

I am like this too. I will take a regular ol' frogspawn over virtually every designer chalice. TBH though I do like some of the collector Euphyllia species though (gold torch, purple hammer, pink hammer, etc.). Gold torches grow really slow, so I won't be getting a frag from any club members soon!

Thanks people. I feel you SushiGirl and Ambition. There is nothing wrong in buying an interesting, rare morph and shelling out $$$ for it IMO, but seeing a frag jumping from $30 to several hundreds just because somebody took a good macro photo and named it it's not cool. Well, it's good there are still people willing to trade their frags no matter what they paid for it. I will post some more pics soon:) I wish I could post a link to my site, I would release one image as a wallpaper for everyone...

Im using a Tamron 90mm macro lens mounted on a tripod. Strobe is Nikon sb900 and each photo was shoot in manual mode, both camera and flash. I'll try to keep the shutter speed no lower than 1/100s and ISO 100-200. Flash was set to front curtain. Hope that helps:)
