Howdy all.

Took most of these last night after a water change. The clam shot was from last week. All on a tripod, pumps off, D40 with 55-200 lens. Some minor editing in Capture NX and resized in Picture Gear 5.1.

Really nice shots, Robb! What ISO are you shooting? If you have your camera in Auto, it might select a higher ISO when you could probably use a lower setting. A lower ISO should get rid of some of the "noise" that is evident, particularly in the last shot.

Still, very nice macro shots!

Thanks for the feedback.

All of these were in manual, ISO 200 or 400. I think the slight bit
of editing I did on that last pic caused all of the noise, but I'm not sure
how/why.

I can't wait to get a real macro lens though!

I have also experienced some noise creation when editing - particularly when Sharpening.

I want a good macro lens too!

nice close ups - you may want to change the white balance on the camera for tank shots so you dont need to lighten them up by editing after - that may avoid the noise - I cant recall which but there is a WB setting on my D70 - i think for fluorescent lighting - that works very well on my tank - so you may want to see if that works for you.

I haven't played with the WB yet. The D40 is doing a pretty good job on it's own so far. It could be better though.
