Something Wrong With Foxface :(.

Yesterday night I was cleaning my tanks glass with my magnet cleaner. Unfortunately, it's a piece of crap and comes apart often and isn't one that floats. It's also pretty big and somewhat heavy. Anyways, while I was cleaning it came apart and it seems my Foxface was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It fell and everything happened so fast but it seems his fin or another part of his body was pinned to live rock. Ever since it happened he will not leave from hiding under the live rock. His breathing seems rapid and has his spines are spiked a lot. He wouldn't even come out for food. He isn't really hiding too hard either but it seems he's hurt and won't swim up from the bottom. I'm almost in tears because this happened last night and is still like this right now. If he dies I will be heartbroken! Is it possible he can heal if he has an injury? I haven't seen any obvious marks on his body.

If there are no marks on his body he might have internal damage..I don't think there's a lot you can do except get a better magfloat. I hope everything's okay with him.

he's gonna be ok imo. it's just a magnet cleaner not a big rock or something. he's just stressed. good luck.

Unfortunately, I found my foxface passed away this morning. I couldn't find him ANYWHERE. Then I found his little nose sticking out from one of live rocks, clearly dead, saddest thing ever. I seriously didn't think he was hurt that badly so I was suprised when I found him. I cried all morning. I know fish die but he wasn't ready to die and he did because of me. He was such a cool and entertaining fish. RIP little guy. Ugh, I'm tore up over it!! I don't even want the tank anymore because it makes me so sad to not see him in there.

On the other hand, because you do care, you are the sort who WILL take care of their critters. This was a sheer accident, not even a mistake---accidents are not planned. They just are, the way trees fall in the woods. THis little fellow could have been gobbled by a shark ages ago and instead he fell victim to a weird accident, not your doing. I'd say replace your little guy and get a magnet that floats instead of falls.

Thank you, I appreciate the nice words. I consider my fish pets and not just something that is pretty to look at. I try my best to take care of them the best I can. I wouldn't have the tank if I thought I would neglect it. I feel like I care a little too much. Most people would just be like whatever, I will get a new one. I know it was an accident but I'm still beating myself up over it. When I think about it I just get teary eyed! I'm a big baby. I got too attached to a little fish I guess. If anyone has/had a foxface then you know how chill and entertaining they are.

Sk8er said it perfectly. Pick up a new mag float and when your ready go pick up a foxface to be part of your fish family. This hobby needs more people like you that care about the fish and not just how pretty they look in the tank.

I once was frantically picking up live rock and putting in a bucket trying to catch a tang. I found my poor Starry Blenny in the bottom of the bucket with barely any water. I got very lucky he survived. Now anytime I'm moving or touching rock I keep an eye on everything and even have my wife watch to help. Accidents happen. Don't beat yourself up.

As Sk8r and Marchillo said, please don't beat yourself up over this. You obviously care about your inhabitants. These situations are called "accidents", not "purposes". Grab a floating magnet and in due time, replace your Foxface. I agree, they are cool fish. My two are the first fish I put in and they are certainly characters.

I am sorry to hear about your fish. Like Sk8r pointed out it was an accident and get yourself a floating magnet. Good luck with your tank.

i'm so sorry for your loss. i thought he was gonna be ok. don't be so hard on yourself. it was just an accident like above posters said.

Sorry for your loss. I totally understand getting attached to fish. I moved a 180 gallon tank 200 miles because I could not part with my Rabbit Fish (Spike). I get the attachment!!
