what brand of mb7 are you using cause u say your dosing 8 drops a day . im using the microbacter7 from brightwell and i am dosing 50ml . i just started it 3 days ago so im going by the instructions on the bottle i have 250 gallons total volume . i dont like dosing that much liquid and want to see if another brand would let me dose less

MB7 is only made by Brightwell.

MB7 is only made by Brightwell.

but you can get other bacteria brands, try ZEOvit, Probidio, or Polyp Lab if you don't like MB7 they all have their own bacteria products.

i dose less MB7 then the bottle recommends and am very pleased with the results you should dose what works for your system not necessarily what the bottle says. JMO :mixed:

Hi Sonny & all,
I hope this isn't a hijack since I don't have a shallow reef........
I'm looking for some advice on 48" t-5's. I'm totally out of the loop what's the latest on T-5's. Any help would be appreciated.

I need to replace my bulbs for my t-5 fixture & currently have 2 Geisman Blue plus & 2 Geismans Antinc plus.........ballast is an ice cap 660. I like this combo but haven't tried to grow sps. So far I've had anenomes, LPS & caps do fine under them with a 20" 75g.

I see ATI mainly mentioned a lot.......... Are the Geismann's Antinic+ & ATI blue + basically the same?

How about Geismann Blue+ compared to the ATI Blue specaial?

I'm interested in performance compared not price. I can get the Geismanns locally.

I"m going to go with a 24" high tank after these bulbs are changed out. Any input is appreciated.

I'm not sure about the other items, but I believe Sonny is using a DIY improved 2-part (Randy's, I think) for his Ca, Mg, and Alkalinity.
Thanks for the info..much appreciated.....but iam not sure? I have no clue to what Randys 2 part means? Can anyone explain please ?

Thanks guys! As you can see, I have a bit of cyano I am dealing with. I have not dosed any carbon sources for about 10 days now. PO4 has risen and a few of the corals darkened up. I was dosing the vinegar in the hopes that it would kill off the cyano. It worked for a couple weeks, eventually making the problem worse. It may have been my error and I may have been dosing a higher than required quantity of vinegar.

To solve the issue I have a large shipment of GFO and Carbon coming in on Monday from bulkreefsupply.com . I am still dosing the MB7 but will be laying off the vodka for a month or so, or at least until the cyano is gone and the corals have colored back up. One good thing to report is that coral growth and polyp extension has been great.

Sonny, Your tank is looking fabulous.. I don't know if you remember, but prior to using MB7. I cycled my tank with Microbe Lift Special Blend. 3 weeks back due to a cyano issue I switched to vinegar, stopped MB7 and started a 5 week program with Special Blend at the suggestion of some local reefers. Originally, the suggestion came from Joe Burger(JBNY).. The Cyano is just about gone after 3 weeks. There are no more dark red patches and what's left is very light and not very noticable. I have two weeks to go. I will let you know how it goes.. I do have a recent thread on it that you can check out.

Gorgeous man..i dont know how u do it....and so i still havent made a decision on a light fixure yet....but iam confused about one thing....u recommended me the ATI sunpower which seems less priced than the constellation that u have....I guess what iam trying to figure out then is how come you chose the constellation over the ATI?

Thanks for the heads up on the product. I will check out the thread.

I originally wanted the ATI Powermodule but the wait on them was much to long at almost 3 months. I heard good things about the Constellation so I decided to pick it up.

Sonny thanks for sharing your beautiful tank with us, this tank continues to be an inspiration to many Reef Central members (myself included) and your tank looks great as usual, I really like how everything is growing in since your last (pic update)

I've actually been looking into special blend. Its made by ecological labs which is primarily a bacterial company. Thinking it may be a better blend. It says only use up to salinity of 1.025 but the manufacturer says that it can be used higher w/o issue. It was just put on the label because thats the higher salinity most people use.

Great pictures as usual Sonny!

FWIW I've been using MB7 for over a year and am really happy with it, just hoping special blend might break down detritus a little better.
