 Im still around. I will try and answer all the questions tonight and tomorrow. I am making some pretty radical changes to the tanks layout, should be completed next week. Plus, Modern Warfare 2 came out and all my free time has been going to the Xbox 360.

If any of you guys play add me: SONNY M63

Its almost as if you knew I was talking about you. LOL I wish I could still play video games, my two year old would be sitting on my head ripping my ears off. Cant wait till the kids are old enough to play, but by then I wont know how anymore.

Hey Sonny,

What is the green film algae a sign of? Same question with the brown?

That seems to be the only algae that I get but it comes daily.

Thanks,
Roland

What you are seeing MAY be bacteria overdose...? Just a thought but when I started running ZeoVit the information with the system indicated that when you start getting a brown dusting and or growth in the tank, one should reduce the amt of bac being introduced into the tank.

Henry - it appears I have overshot the the amount of bacteria my tank can handle. I'm getting the brown hair-like build up. I'm 99% sure it's the bacteria from pictures and descriptions in other threads. I have also read that they will go away on their own. Their bad on the glass but not the rocks/sand. I was wondering if I could speed up the process by scraping them off? The few I hit with the mag float always float around the tank for awhile before getting sucked up by the overflow. I was thinking I could scrape all the glass get it stirred up real good then take a fish net and attempt to net out all I could catch. In your opinion, would this be a good idea or bad? Thanks.

Sonny - I have been dosing 3 mL vodka and 7 drops of MB7 on my 150-gallon now for about 12 weeks. All was going well - until I decided I needed to add substrate to my bare bottom system. I added some crushed aragonite (1") - much of which came from a previously established setup and stored in 5-gallon buckets for an extended period of time (>3 months).

That was around four weeks ago. All corals and other livestock look great - but I'm struggling with diatoms and some cyano on the substrate. I'm thinking there was some die off in the sand causing the bloom. I have not had any algae problems in the system before.

Would increasing the MB7 dosage be a good idea to battle the diatoms? Should I back off the vodka dosing until the diatoms begin to die off? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Don't get on much these days but I do have COD MW2!

Still have to get back out your way man... maybe over the holidays I'll have some free time!

Seems I might be coming back into the realm of "shallow reefs" again soon too :D (as in corals, not tank) We'll see...
