Did you figure out the problem? I'm having the same thing happen after just starting MB7.
 
I can't remembr if this happend when I started the MB7 or not. If you are dosing Alk and Calcium and make drastic changes to your tank which halts the growth of stoney corals, they wont uptake as much and you'll see your Alkalinity climb. The calcium will climb too, but at a much slower rate that isn't as measureable. You should cut back on the dosing until your corals recover and return to the regular growth rate. It could be the extra light penetration from the clearer water might take the corals some time to adjust to.

Well mhurley, since your asking..

The point is Sunnyx is a football fan like me.. "Soccer" or whatever its called in the states :)

A few days ago El Clasico was played in Barcelona between Barcelona and Real Madrid with all the superstars of football on display, the game was won by Barcelona 1 - 0. So i figured i'd post the goal for Sonny for fun since we've had football related posts in this thread before as you would have noticed if you had bothered to look back in the thread before using the moderator gun..

Your alk increase should not be linked to the MB7, I did not experience this. The easiest way to get it down is to just stop dosing alk and let it fall naturally, just be very careful not to get too low. I like 8-9dKh gives me a little wiggle room but still low.
 
Hey sunny got a ? for you..
Im gonna start with mb7 and vodka..
Where should i start with mb7 as far as how many drops.. I was doing about 6 per day but kept getting a lot of algea on my glass... Been doing 3 and ive been good.
I have a 150 gallon sps tank with nitrates @ 5ppm.
Ohh and should i run gfo??

High dose maintance for 2 wks per. instruction then go to low dose

Nope i have no clue what it could be, i have stopped alk and cal dosing now for 3 days and still no drop in alk. Like i said i run a very simple system just rocks some chemy pure elite and that's it. Im now on day 4 of mb7 an vodka, and im dosing .7ml of mb7,and .2ml of vodka. and will be increasing vodka to .4 as of tomorrow on days 4-7 like the chart says. Im also dosing Brightwell Aquatics Koralle-VM .5ml daily for the first 4 weeks then i will adjust my dose after the 4t since it says to increase it. lugols on Tuesday's and stronium every 3 days. but alk is still in the 11's no drops yet and no clue to what it is. Also im thinking of doing a water change tomorrow of about 10g in my 66g tank. how will this affect my dosing?? the water change is to try to drop alk

is my DAS x1 Skimmer strong enough for carbon dosing and if not how strong doese it have to be.

have you tested the alk on your freshly mixed water. If your not dosing anything to raise your alk then I would think that your salt mix is raising your alk.

I agree above that salt mix usually has a bit higher alk. I dosed MB7 according to the bottle with no water changes until after I was through the first 2 weeks then I just dose 1 drop per 10 gallons daily or you can go with the weekly. Then I started dosing vodka and ramping up slowly, watch out for red algae its directly linked to vodka, just cut off vodka dosing until it disappears and work your way back up.

Also if you are not dosing any kalk, ph buffer or anything with alk then your alk has to drop eventually...assuming this is not a test kit issue. Also as long as your not doing large weekly water changes.
