I know that many reefers have had much success with hair algae by raising the Mg levels to the 1600 - 1700 range with no ill effect to their reefs. It seems to lose its color and just die off within a few days. Once its gone, you can allow the MG to naturally drop back to the 1300 range. If I can find the post, I will PM you with it..

That is a bleached out GARF Purple Bonsai. I changed the bulbs a little to fast and some corals lightened up. When it is at its normal color it is a nice purple with green polyps.

Thats funny you say that. I have the piece I am talking about right next to my GARF, the have the same growth patterns and structure but this one has more of a green hue to it. The garf is in front here with the deep purple.

I don't think green film necessarily means that you have overdosed on a carbon source. When I overdose on a carbon source I get an excess of white bacterial slime in the tank. If I overdose for a long period of time red slime starts to creep in.

Are all of your parameters in line and at the correct levels?

I thought white film is sign of two many bacteria (MB7 Overdosing)

Yes. I thought all my parameter is at the correct level. Recently I changed my vinegar dosing schedule but not MB7 quantity. When I add MB7 more and fix vinegar, I can see the white film.

do us a favor and keep us updated on your "lightened" corals coloring back up. You are at a point where a lot of T5 users see their corals fade under these lights but in most cases the color never comes back. It would be nice to see how a pro handles the situation and yes; you are a pro. I won't hear it if you say otherwise.

Thanks for your advise on vodka dosing and bare bottom tanks. I will switch back to Fauna Marin. I like the looks of what vodka has been doing for your tank. Too bad this system doesn't work as well with bare bottom.

Don't know what to do. Algea is horrible. Getting Cyano now too. I think I'm going to stop the AlgeaX. Maybe it's the cause for the cyano. Help!
