Another build thread that i somehow managed to miss. You've inspired me to go with the simple, less is more approach. Extremely impressive setup considering its simplicity and lack of all the usual bells and whistles(having said that i'm a bit of an equipment junkie and i can't seem to live without it) that normally go along with having a beautiful reef tank. Looking forward to the next update with lots of pics hopefully. What camera are you using btw?

Not to hijack the thread (apologies Sonny), but been following along here for a while now and I have to concur about T5's and coloring of SPS. I have ALWAYS been a MH, and still run my 400W 14K, but after following this build and seeing the T5's I decided to add them to what I am running as supplemental. Only two weeks ago I added 48" 4X54W fixture - got it for 100 bucks! (running ATI's: Front --Blue Plus, Pro-Color, 10K, Actinic) on to my 75G and have already seen the same thing happen to SPS (I am also the proud owner of an "always been poop brown acro" and numerous other blues, purples that have been coloring up with the T5s. And no it's not that they merely appear another color under different lighting. Since I kept the 400W MH running I can flip the T5s off and check the colors under the old lights so I have a fair comparison. I won't give up my MH (I like the rippling too much!) but T5s are just less "peaky" in terms of spectral output and allow to emphasize specific spectrums of light with the bulbs offered. I am going to have to start my own thread and show you the before and after. So thanks for the inspiration Sonny!

Soon enough you won't have to give up the shimmer, Aquatinics is coming out with a T5 fixture that has LED's to add shimmer. Can't wait.

I heard that. Sweet!!!!

Any updates on the tank?

If your asking me about my future tank, no updates. Can't decide if I want an Elos or to have one built.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I have been unbelievably busy. The tank is looking good and corals are growing nicely. It looks like I made the right choice by going the T5 route.

Anyways.....Im back! :D

Sunny,

I am sure somewhere in this thread you have said what you are dosing your two part with but I missed it. Could you go over that again.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Sunny,

What #/model nanostreams are u using for flow? Do you feel it is adequate for sps?

Water Movement

Ehiem 1260 for Return pump
2 Modded Tunze 6025 Nano Streams
1 Un-modded Tunze 6025 Nano Stream
2 Un-modded Tunze 6045’s Nano Streams

I may end up modding the rest of the Tunzes. The current 6025’s that are modded put out an amazing amount of flow. The new tank must look as natural as possible so I plan on strategically placing all pump so that they are out of sight. It should be a fun little challenge. :D

Nice tank... How thick is the glass?

Display Tank

48" x 24" x 20" Rimless
100 gallons from http://www.miraclesaquariums.com/
2 Sided Starphire glass( Front and left side)
Right Side Corner Overflow with 1" return and 1.5" drain

I believe Starphire only comes in 1/2" and 3/4" and with this size tank I would guess it's 1/2"...
