What kind of bacteria are you dosing?
You said vodka for carbon source dosing, but are you using prodibio/zeobac/? for bacteria? Sorry if it's been answered before.

I am using Microbacker7 at the moment and am happy with the results.

Awesome, thanks.

And congrats on the split :D

Sunny do you unplug carbon reactor when you drop lugol's?

do you run any counter-phos midia? I think we can't not use it when dosing vodka, can we?

nice tank man!

The tank looks amazing!!!

Quick question for you, I am setting up the same sized tank and wondering how much 2 part are you dosing daily? Trying to figure out size of containers I should set up for my dosing pumps.

SunnyX, the Constellation light fixture, your bulb recommendation and my vortech are the best things going for my tank right now aside from my husbandry!!

Can you give us your light timer cycles, I know you've described them in the Aquactinics forum but it would be great to explain here.

Can you prived the Switch and bulbe amount and the time for each one starting from the first on to last off? Thank you.

Split split split! Dude at least you can snap your tank just fine. I miss having T5s MH is so hard for me :(

The carbon stays in the tank at all times and I do not run any phosphate removing material. I dont want anything to compete with the bacteria. :D

Thank you :D

I dose 70Ml of CA and ALK daily. I use these products and containers found here: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/Two-Part-Kits/c52/p267/The-Total-Two-Part-Package/product_info.html

congrats on the split it was just a matter of time.

Your thread has been a great source of information for myself and many others, thanks for all the inspiration. :)

oh and +1 on "you can never have too much blue" ;)

Ok question for you i see you should stop the phosban reactor with phosphate remover in when dosing vodka. Im using the brightwell carbon "biofuel" and using the micorbactor7. I was using the phosban since transfering my tanks till it went through its initial little cycle. Now thats done i started to dose biofuel and bac, my tank is already at a pretty low state po4-0.02 no3-2.5, so im using this to help out. So you guys are saying to stop the po4 remover then? Hey Sonny how much vodka are you dosing in your tank now?

The reason for discontinuing the use of a phosphate reomover is :

1. You do not want anything to compete with the bacteria for food.

2. The carbon/bacteria dosing will lower your PO4 to a very low level, and PO4 remover would make your tank "too clean" and starve your corals. You need some PO4.

I currently dose 1.8ml a day of Vodka, but the dosage you add will vary because every system is different. Use the link achillesheel has posted and follow the dosing charts and instructions.

Take it slowly when starting out with vodka. If you see any red slime or corals looking light then lay off dosing for a week and start over. It may take a month or so for the vodka to kick in with some systems, although you will notice markedly clearer water within the first 2-3 days.

Good luck and have patience. ;)

Words of wisdom.

My 90'ish gallon tank only takes 1.0 ml, and I am now feeding a lot more to keep the corals at prime colors, they lightened up a bit after the water got progressively clearer over a few weeks, noticeable within 2-3 days.

congrats on the split sunny

Sonny i think your tank is amazing!

it will be a stunner once it all grows out dude!

i will be soon setting up my first ever SPS tank - it will be a 30"L x 18"W x 15"H

for lighting i was thinking using 6 T5's - what do you think about this? too much or just about right?

thanks

steve

Thanks! :D

Congrats on the new SPS setup. You will be fine with 6 bulbs but it may be a little too strong for some of the corals. I would go with 4 or 5 bulbs max.

Do you plan on purchasing a fixture or retrofitting them yourself?
