That tank is looking outstanding, Sunny. Yours, along with Mike's, really makes me want to go all T5s on my next tank upgrade.

Come to the dark side..er, I mean light side. :D

I can never give up my T5's and go back to MH. The colors I have been able to achieve have been amazing compared to when I ran MH.

Interesting bulb selection Sonny. Am I correct there are no 10K or daylight bulbs? How are finding the growth rate? Whatever the case your tank is looking sweet!

Well, the Aquablue Special are about 12K and white in color. Honestly, I don't think the K rating make much difference in terms of PAR with T5's. The greatest advantage of T5's is the ability to run blue bulbs without the loss of PAR or growth. The Blue+ bulb which looks like a super blue actinic actually has more PAR them most T5 bulbs.

One guy I know actually runs only Blue+ bulbs, I believe 6 of them, and has amazing color and growth out of his corals.

Zoanthids are back!

I picked up a few corals this week:

ORA Birds of Paradise
Blue Slimmer (I already have one but this one looks different)
Spiderman Zoanthids
King Midas Zoanthids
Tubs Blue Zoanthids

I really only had a couple different species of zoo's on my tank but recently I guess the Zoanthid bug bit me once more. I really like the new additions, especially the King Midas. The yellow color on it is absolutely stunning under the Blue+'s.

The right bottom half of my reef really needed some color so these should do the trick.

Hello,

I followed this chart here to begin my dosing: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/images/Table1-40Proof.jpg

I currently dose 1.8ml a day all at the same time.

I read he doesnt use filter sock

No filter socks here. I really don't have any need for them in my tank. My water stays crystal clear and I have almost no particles in suspension. I use a "small" return pump(ehiem1260) so I don't have to worry about micro bubbles.

I ran socks on my old tank only because I had a large return pump that created micro bubbles. They were a pain to constantly replace and wash and I felt that they picked up too much of the beneficial creatures the corals feed on at night.

Unless you have a micro bubble issues I see no reason to use filter socks.

hey sonny
on your lights out test:
there was a thread a while back where aquabucket did a three day lights out test. i believe he originally did it to help with a cyano prob but then realized that his tank benifited in general from it - similar to what you found
1) are you planning to continue this practice or was it a one time thing
2) i've been considering instead of a lights period - running just the blue bulbs on the weekend kinda as a cloudy day effect

this is going to be my second weekend - do you really think there is merit to this ideology or is it just another bandwagon looking for passengers?

1. I have incorporated one day of just 3xBlue+ for 6 hours. Hopefully this will aid the corals in recovering after a long day under the lights.

2. You could give that a try although I'm not sure how well it will work in the long run. I will be doing one day of low lighting and track my progress from there. If my corals adjust to it and are no longer benefiting then I will go back to a full lighting period.

I guess the easiest method would be to simply knock a couple hours off of your photo period.

thanks sonny, just had a look. did you stop at week 1 cuz its says week 2 is 2.6ml.

:D

In my system a little vodka went a long way. My system was pretty clean to start with so I didn't have to dose as much. I believe I got almost to 4ml before reaching the desired nutrient levels and scaling back to half the dose at 1.8ml.

Hi Sonny-looking real good man. Do you know the name of this acro? The blue one at the top of the picture.

Clint

It has green skin so I guess it is the Cali tort, but I could be wrong. When i got it it had no name and was completely browned out. I got it for $10 because of the brown color but within a month it is nice and blue :D

Sonny

Looking great man! My mini-Sunny tank is looking great to. Check it out!

Where did you get your lords from?

-Dave
