After viewing this thread, I pulled the trigger on a 40 dollar maricultured colony today that looks very similar to this. Me and a friend had a debate whether it was a gomezi or navini but i bought it anyways. hopefully it's this.

..ok just a heads up. I asked DD not to ship my stuff yet cause I want to get something else to combine shipping with (i'm a sucker for free shipping)... SO if there is anything COOL tomorrow.. DON'T BUY IT FROM UNDER ME ;)

k thanks.. lol

Nothing scientific with the way I differentiate them. It's mostly from looking at these pieces for a good decade. To me the corralites on the Navini are more symmetrical. The tips of the Navini are more triangular, while the gomezi tip is more flat and square. The color of the Navini has always been greenish-blue, and more blue once you zap it with lights. The famous one of course is the Tyree Navini from the early 2000's. It's a great piece..I was able to obtain a frag of it recently.

Navini: Colonies are bushy or have thick bottlebrush-like branches. Branchlets and sub-branchlets are compact and of uniform shape. Axial and incipient axial corallites intergrade with radial corallites and are distinctively tubular, with truncated ends. Small radial corallites are pocket-shaped.
Gomezi:Colonies are arborescent with straight tapered branches forming thickets. Sub-branches form at obtuse angles. Axial corallites are prominent and tubular. Radial corallites are small and curved near branch tips, becoming tubular further down branches where they project perpendicularly and are only slightly curved. These become incipient axial corallites which have small pocket-shaped radial corallites around their bases. All corallites have thick walls with rounded openings.
This is why i hate identifying corals. what the hell. lol
