Sorry John... But I am calling out COPPS!!!

Dude you rock! That is why your fish collection is one of the best. There is a story behind every fish! You always make the point "get the fish that excite you" and its so true you will get so much more out of it IMO.

Oh and you talking about your fish nerdiness, well we wouldn't be having a thread for you or bug you so much if we weren't right there with you.

But okay I have a question:
At least in your recent pics I haven't seen any Caribbean fish, what's the deal?

I'm pretty sure he mentioned a Banks BF pair in another thread, IIRC?

Eitherway, he definitely needs more Caribbean fish. Like a Queen x Rock Beauty hybrid. :D

nice pic of the tiny regal. You don't see misbar regals anywhere! Your pic is much better than mine... haha

looking forward to the updated ones :)

Absolutely stunning.

Ive been a very large angelfish lover since I entered the hobby. I knew that I would eventually have a lot of angels and to see your tanks copps is just pure inspiration. I love the fish I have and im glad im not the only one that thinks that is the most important part of this hobby.

I was very curious actually on your quarantine procedures as there are so many people that have different views on this part of the hobby. How do you go about acquiring new live stock? Even corals?

Here is my pride and joy. She spent a long time in QT being treated for every thing I could think of and then went into my 35 gallon bowfront. She is about 2.75 inches.

My avatar is also a picture of her.

Thanks,

My concern at this point is not the health of the fish they are bullet proof at this point but the increasing bioload on my system which could have a negitave effect on my SPS. My sps are healthy but do not pop like what is in the picture. That is the impressive part of your display to me. The ability to have a heavy bioload and still maintane that impressive coral collection.I am curious to know your feeding habits and filteration on board your system. Also your water change schedule. Thank You for sharing

Ah yes... hard core reefers will appreciate this the most as it's THE biggest challenge... keeping popping colors on growing sps long term in an aquarium is a challenge in itself, but with a tank of fish it is that much more so! I'll elaborate later as this is one of those simple questions that could have a BOOK as an answer...

Ok John, I will patiently wait for your comments. Thanks

John, Here's a few terrible pictures of my group. I wish I could take some decent pictures but I am convienced that is a whole other hobby that I don't have time for..

Tony :

Can you list all your fishes and how long you have them ?
What do you feed them ? Nice angels... nice tangs... specially the yellow belly hipo...

Very impressive pictures I must say, they sure were worth the wait. Question about your Achilles. Mine was the last "big" fish in my tank and I have noticed after trying to put in two other big fish that the Achilles doesn't like to play nice with new additions (one was a tang, the other an angel) so both had to go before he tore them apart. Have you ever noticed any aggression coming from your Achilles? Did you add any other fish after adding it or was it the last one in the tank?

Thanks for the kind words. I think there is a lot I can learn from john though.

Rachenbrazil. My fish list uis as folliows. I feed twice a day. Formula 2 pellets in trhe early morning. PY mysis in the evening. Seaweed 3 time a week.
NAME QUANTITY
JOCULATOR 1
REGAL ANGELS 2
MAJESTIC ANGEL 1
LINEUTATUS WRASSE(PAIR) 2
FLAME WRASSE(PAIR) 2
RHOMBOID WRASSE) 1
YELLOW TANG 1
YELLOW BELLY HIPPO TANG 1
HARLAQUAN TUSK(Australian) 1
FLAME HAWK 1
BLENNY 1
YELLOW TAIL DAMSEL 1
GOLD FLAKE ANGLE 1
SCOTTS FAIRY WRASSE 1
ACHILLES TANG 1
SCRIBBLES ANGLE 1
TOTAL 19

My achilles is not to agressive it is my yellow tang that is brutal on all new arrivals. I don't have many new arrivals.

The harlaquain is one of my favorite fish so I put up with more then usual. He is a model citizen with all other fish but feeds on my cleanup crew quite heavely. So it isa matter of replacing some snails and crabs every couple of months..

I hope I answered all the questions

Hey guys, I'll respond to everyone when I have time this weekend... and of course I'll have pics... Anthony Calfo is coming by this weekend also so I'll be scraping coralline anyway!

Thanks for the patience...

Copps

PS- Nice fishies Tony! :)

Hey copps in your 65 gallon tank you have a Regal Angel and I was wondering if you think a Regal Angel would work well in a 65 gallon tank I am thinking about getting in about a year? :)

Yes they are, and michael I am just looking for a second opinion :)

Thanks John, this was a nice sidetrack from my papers and studying for exams :) I wish I had half the collection you do and you've really got to hook me up with some of your connections! I've been trying to find an update on Frank but I'm really failing miserably. If you know anything please satisfy my curiousity and let me know :)

It's funny Chelsey... I speak to Frank regularly and somehow some people know when Frank is going to get started when even Frank still doesn't know when Frank is getting started... :D The wheels are in motion though... he's planning the plans let's say... but far from anything concrete... I head to Hawaii next month again and we'll probably do some diving again... rest assured I'll update when things are in swing... As to my connections most are just friends... most of the people in the business as collectors/wholesalers.retailers etc. are fishnerds themselves... not in it for the money, and so we often think alike... they see a ton of the normal stuff and appreciate the different thinks that excite them, like many of the specimens I have... good old Frank at RCT for instance... if I had a nickel for every person that complained about his captive raised interrupta at $650 when they were available, only to now be in line to buy them when they do become available, I'd have a few dollars! I was a fan of Frank's back before he did anything rare and knew he was doing AMAZING work... trailblazing captive angelfish spawning a rearing... and if I were unmarried and 10 years younger I'd be working with him...

Hi Copps I have an Angelfish question for you if you don't mind....I'm considering adding a Blue Ring (Pomacanthus Annularis) eventually to my sps tank as the system's centerpiece. I've searched through RC and read up on them and I haven't found out much about them besides the typical Angelfish description that they are prone to nip at corals, can be aggressive etc, etc.

I'm not necessarily worried about them nipping too much at coral, so I guess I would like to know your experience with them... temperament, hardiness and anything else.

Thanks

Quite honestly, ALL Pomacanthus adapt relatively easily and ALL have the potential to be mean... I always say it is not WHAT you mix... but HOW you mix... dealing with the aggression of each individual fish through various means... again a chapter in a book can be written on this... one of the most important things is avoiding what I call the "dump and hope approach"... taking a newly acquired specimen that has probably been transported for weeks since collection with little to no feeding, and adding it straight into our display with aggressive fish where food is gone in 10 seconds... QT is much more about adapting our newcomer to a captive environment in a peaceful, controlled, stress free environment than it is about keeping foreign disease out of our tanks...

Yeah... the "fish that excite you" thing goes for corals too... and anything else in life really... I remember people would come over to see my tanks and get frags and they'd ask "What's rare? I want those corals!"... and I sort of feel like if you need to ask if it's rare you shouldn't have it you know? Sure I have many rare things... but I have many common things too... what trait do they all share? They all excite me!

In regards to Caribbean fish as was mentioned I do have a pair of Prognathodes aya... I'll post pics later as they're on my home computer... and I plan on collecting some of my own in February with Julian Sprung's help and expertise! I'm sure you also aware of the biodiversity in the Atlantic too, which leaves few species to choose. With angelfish for instance, there are 17 species documented from the tiny island of Guam I travel to in the South Pacific, whereas the entire Atlantic Ocean has just nine... I'm hoping to collect my own small French and Queen though in February... not an easy month to do it... but possible...

I'll respond to the rest tonight...

Thanks again guys!

Copps
