Thanks John, this was a nice sidetrack from my papers and studying for exams
I wish I had half the collection you do and you've really got to hook me up with some of your connections! I've been trying to find an update on Frank but I'm really failing miserably. If you know anything please satisfy my curiousity and let me know
It's funny Chelsey... I speak to Frank regularly and somehow some people know when Frank is going to get started when even Frank still doesn't know when Frank is getting started...

The wheels are in motion though... he's planning the plans let's say... but far from anything concrete... I head to Hawaii next month again and we'll probably do some diving again... rest assured I'll update when things are in swing... As to my connections most are just friends... most of the people in the business as collectors/wholesalers.retailers etc. are fishnerds themselves... not in it for the money, and so we often think alike... they see a ton of the normal stuff and appreciate the different thinks that excite them, like many of the specimens I have... good old Frank at RCT for instance... if I had a nickel for every person that complained about his captive raised interrupta at $650 when they were available, only to now be in line to buy them when they do become available, I'd have a few dollars! I was a fan of Frank's back before he did anything rare and knew he was doing AMAZING work... trailblazing captive angelfish spawning a rearing... and if I were unmarried and 10 years younger I'd be working with him...

Hi Copps I have an Angelfish question for you if you don't mind....I'm considering adding a Blue Ring (Pomacanthus Annularis) eventually to my sps tank as the system's centerpiece. I've searched through RC and read up on them and I haven't found out much about them besides the typical Angelfish description that they are prone to nip at corals, can be aggressive etc, etc.
I'm not necessarily worried about them nipping too much at coral, so I guess I would like to know your experience with them... temperament, hardiness and anything else.
Thanks
Quite honestly, ALL Pomacanthus adapt relatively easily and ALL have the potential to be mean... I always say it is not WHAT you mix... but HOW you mix... dealing with the aggression of each individual fish through various means... again a chapter in a book can be written on this... one of the most important things is avoiding what I call the "dump and hope approach"... taking a newly acquired specimen that has probably been transported for weeks since collection with little to no feeding, and adding it straight into our display with aggressive fish where food is gone in 10 seconds... QT is much more about adapting our newcomer to a captive environment in a peaceful, controlled, stress free environment than it is about keeping foreign disease out of our tanks...

Dude you rock! That is why your fish collection is one of the best. There is a story behind every fish! You always make the point "get the fish that excite you" and its so true you will get so much more out of it IMO.
Oh and you talking about your fish nerdiness, well we wouldn't be having a thread for you or bug you so much if we weren't right there with you.
But okay I have a question:
At least in your recent pics I haven't seen any Caribbean fish, what's the deal?
Yeah... the "fish that excite you" thing goes for corals too... and anything else in life really... I remember people would come over to see my tanks and get frags and they'd ask "What's rare? I want those corals!"... and I sort of feel like if you need to ask if it's rare you shouldn't have it you know? Sure I have many rare things... but I have many common things too... what trait do they all share? They all excite me!
In regards to Caribbean fish as was mentioned I do have a pair of Prognathodes aya... I'll post pics later as they're on my home computer... and I plan on collecting some of my own in February with Julian Sprung's help and expertise! I'm sure you also aware of the biodiversity in the Atlantic too, which leaves few species to choose. With angelfish for instance, there are 17 species documented from the tiny island of Guam I travel to in the South Pacific, whereas the entire Atlantic Ocean has just nine... I'm hoping to collect my own small French and Queen though in February... not an easy month to do it... but possible...
I'll respond to the rest tonight...
Thanks again guys!
Copps
